Position Summary

RSI is recruiting for a Junior Scientist - Environmental Monitoring Operations (EMO) who will provide field support for environmental monitoring programs at LM sites across the nation. Field activities will include all aspects of environmental monitoring operations conducted at LM sites including environmental monitoring, field investigation support, and well and treatment system maintenance.

Hiring Range: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year. (The anticipated starting salary is based on the posted minimum requirements for this position. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.)

 

This position is required to travel 50% of the time.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sampling of environmental media including groundwater, surface water, radon, gamma radiation, soil, natural gas, and produced water.
  • Calibration, use, and maintenance of scientific instrumentation.
  • Documentation of sampling activities using a field computer.
  • Equipment use and maintenance including pumps, generators, compressors, and controllers.
  • Well and treatment system maintenance.
  • Use trailer for towing, cargo loading, and UTV use.
  • Support for site characterization and drilling activities.
  • Monitoring well installation.
  • Completing required documentation for planning, safety, field work, and trip reports. As assigned - Geoprobe operations (may not apply to all positions). As assigned - Smeal hydraulic rig operations (may not apply to all positions). Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field of discipline or related field.
  • 0 to 5 years of relevant experience.

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • No professional certification required.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus when performing tedious tasks.
  • Following detailed procedures and working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well with people.
  • Hard worker and willingness to learn.
  • Driving experience both on highway and off-road.
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and Microsoft Office computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

Essential Physical Requirements 

Medium: Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
