Junior Chemical/Process Engineer
ConfidentialProcess / Chemical Engineer — Raleigh, North Carolina About Attolas Attolas Technologies is an early-stage company focused on advanced, cutting-edge nuclear fuel and quantum supply chain technologies. The role We are hiring an early-career chemical engineer or chemist to develop and run the chemical processes that turn our materials into finished, high-purity products. You will take each process from the first reaction on paper through to a repeatable production step. That covers route selection, bench-scale synthesis, purification, analysis, scale-up, safety reviews and documentation. The team is small, so you will work directly with the founders and be given considerable amounts of responsibility. This is an early-career role, but you will be given a lot of responsibility. What you will do Develop and run processes to convert raw materials into high-purity inorganic compounds. Run bench-scale synthesis and purification such as precipitation, crystallization, drying and recovery, and scale it up into repeatable batch processes. Meet tight purity specifications through careful contamination control and material accounting, with yield tracked on every gram. Handle reactive and hazardous materials safely. You will write SOPs, lead hazard reviews and pay careful attention to material compatibility. Work with analytical methods and outside labs to qualify product against specification. Build process models: mass and energy balances, reaction stoichiometry and yield. Contribute to techno-economic analysis: what it costs to produce each unit, and what drives that cost. Work hands-on in the lab, setting up, operating and troubleshooting equipment yourself, including gloveboxes and inert-atmosphere systems. What we are looking for A degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or a related field, with 0–4 years of experience. Internships, co-ops and research count. Hands-on synthesis or lab experience, ideally in inorganic chemistry, and a serious attitude toward safety. Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics and reaction engineering. You can work a problem from first principles. Careful, meticulous lab practice. You keep a notebook someone else could repeat your work from. Comfort with Python, MATLAB, Excel or similar tools for modeling and data analysis. Self-motivation. You will see what needs doing and do it. Comfort with a startup pace. The hours can be long and our team is extremely close. You will have a large part in the culture that is built up within the company. Bonus: experience with air-sensitive or glovebox work, handling highly hazardous reagents, high-purity or trace-metals work, or process scale-up. Location and travel The role is based in Raleigh, North Carolina. You should expect travel to other company and supplier sites. Some stretches of the schedule may require weeks to months in a temporary location. Compensation The salary is $80,000 – $90,000 per year plus stock in the company. The company will provide full health insurance, dental insurance, and eye insurance. Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,800.00 per year Benefits: Dental insurance Health insurance Relocation assistance Vision insurance Work Location: In person
