Italian Import Sourcing Associate

Job Summary Pasta da Pulcinella is seeking an organized and proactive Italian Import Sourcing Associate to support the sourcing and procurement of imported Italian food products, specialty ingredients, and restaurant supplies. This role focuses on researching international suppliers, comparing product options, maintaining sourcing records, and coordinating with vendors to help ensure that quality ingredients are available to support restaurant operations. The successful candidate will work with purchasing staff, kitchen management, distributors, and suppliers to evaluate product quality, monitor availability, and support efficient purchasing processes. The ideal candidate has strong communication and research skills, excellent attention to detail, and an interest in Italian cuisine and international food sourcing. Key Responsibilities Research and identify suppliers of imported Italian ingredients, including pasta, olive oil, cheeses, tomatoes, flour, herbs, and specialty pantry products. Assist with evaluating international suppliers based on product quality, pricing, reliability, availability, and delivery requirements. Request product catalogs, quotations, samples, and specifications from potential suppliers. Compare supplier offers and prepare summaries to support purchasing decisions. Coordinate with restaurant management and kitchen staff to understand ingredient requirements and sourcing priorities. Maintain accurate records of suppliers, product specifications, quotations, purchase orders, and sourcing correspondence. Track product availability, price changes, and expected delivery timelines. Communicate with vendors and distributors regarding order quantities, substitutions, and shipment updates. Help verify that imported products meet agreed specifications and internal quality standards. Assist with organizing import-related documentation and coordinating with relevant logistics or customs representatives when required. Monitor sourcing challenges, including product shortages, delayed shipments, and supplier changes. Research alternative products and suppliers when preferred ingredients are unavailable. Support purchasing budgets and cost-control initiatives through accurate price comparisons. Follow company procedures and applicable requirements relating to product documentation, food safety, and import compliance. Perform additional sourcing and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements Previous experience in purchasing, sourcing, import coordination, supply chain operations, or food distribution is preferred. Interest in Italian food products and international ingredient sourcing. Strong research, organizational, and administrative skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, and standard office applications. Ability to review product specifications, compare quotations, and maintain accurate records. Strong attention to detail and effective time management. Ability to coordinate multiple requests and meet deadlines. Professional communication skills when working with suppliers and internal teams. Familiarity with import documentation or international shipping procedures is an advantage. Preferred Skills Knowledge of Italian specialty foods and imported culinary ingredients. Experience communicating with international suppliers or food distributors. Understanding of purchase orders, invoices, shipping documents, and supplier quotations. Basic knowledge of international logistics, customs documentation, and import procedures. Ability to research alternative suppliers and evaluate sourcing options. Strong analytical thinking and cost-comparison skills. Additional language skills relevant to supplier communication are beneficial but not required.
