Job Summary The Intermodal Operations Representative is responsible for the day-to-day execution of domestic intermodal, drayage, and transload shipments on behalf of Fountain City Logistics (FCL) and its customers. This role owns the shipment lifecycle from build to billing — creating and scheduling loads, dispatching carriers, tracking shipments in transit, managing accessorial charges, and supporting accurate account billing. The Representative acts as the operational point of contact between FCL's sales and operations teams, contracted intermodal and drayage carriers, and shipper/consignee locations, ensuring shipments move efficiently, on time, and within cost expectations. Key Responsibilities Shipment Build & Scheduling • Build and enter domestic intermodal, drayage, and transload shipments accurately into FCL's TMS and carrier platforms. • Schedule intermodal, drayage, and transload appointments in coordination with carriers, terminals, and shipper/consignee locations. • Select the appropriate carrier and mode based on lane, capacity, service commitments, and cost. Dispatch & Execution • Dispatch drayage and transload moves to contracted carriers, confirming pickup and delivery windows. • Schedule and coordinate pickups and deliveries based off customer expectations and shipment deadlines. • Proactively resolve equipment, chassis, and appointment issues that threaten on-time execution. Tracking & Communication • Track and trace shipments from origin to destination, monitoring rail milestones, drayage status, and transload activity. • Communicate proactive shipment updates, delays, and exceptions to internal sales/operations teams and customers. • Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers, shippers, and consignees on active shipments. Accessorial Management & Billing • Identify, validate, and manage accessorial charges (detention, per diem, chassis splits, ramp storage, demurrage, etc.) against carrier and customer agreements. • Review carrier invoices for billing accuracy prior to approval; resolve discrepancies with carriers. • Support timely and accurate customer billing, working closely with the accounting/billing function to close out shipments. Account & Cross-Functional Support • Partner with sales to support account onboarding, lane setup, and ongoing service expectations. • Provide shipment status, exception reporting, and account-level updates to internal stakeholders and customers as needed. • Identify recurring service issues or process gaps and recommend improvements to the Director of Intermodal. Qualifications • 1–3 years of experience in intermodal, drayage, transload, or freight brokerage operations preferred. • Working knowledge of Class I railroad networks, intermodal/drayage providers and accessorial structures a plus. • Proficiency with TMS platforms, pricing tools, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) required. • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable managing multiple carriers and customer relationships simultaneously. • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Working Relationships • Internal: Intermodal sales and operations teams, accounting/billing, Director of Intermodal. • External: Contracted intermodal and drayage carriers, rail and transload terminals, shipper/consignee locations.
