JOB OVERVIEW: Stewarts Heavy Duty LLC is seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Diesel Technician to join our team in the Auburn, Alabama area. This position will primarily operate out of a fully equipped service truck while also having access to a large shop area. The technician will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing heavy-duty trucks and equipment, with a primary focus on refuse and waste industry equipment . We are looking for an experienced technician who is dependable, safety-conscious, mechanically skilled, and capable of working independently. Because this is a mobile service position, the technician must be comfortable working with limited supervision and making sound decisions regarding diagnostics and repairs in the field. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, service, and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems . Perform preventative maintenance and routine services on diesel engines, transmissions, and related components. Diagnose and repair air brake systems . Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems commonly found on refuse and waste equipment. Troubleshoot electrical issues using wiring diagrams, schematics, diagnostic equipment, and testing procedures. Perform diesel engine diagnostics and repairs. Diagnose and repair aftertreatment systems, including DPF, DEF, EGR, and related emissions components . Perform welding and light fabrication when necessary. Use power, pneumatic, and hand tools to safely remove, repair, and reinstall components. Perform roadside, yard, and field service repairs from a service truck. Test-drive and/or function-test equipment following repairs to verify proper operation. Complete accurate and professional repair documentation, including the complaint, cause, correction, parts used, and work performed. Maintain the assigned service truck, tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and organized condition. Communicate repair findings, additional repairs needed, parts requirements, and equipment status to management. Follow company safety procedures and proper repair practices at all times. Required Qualifications Previous professional experience as a Heavy Duty Diesel Technician/Mechanic is required. Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty truck systems. Experience diagnosing and repairing air brake, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems . Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, hydraulic schematics, service information, and manufacturer repair procedures. Ability to perform welding and basic fabrication. Experience using diagnostic software and electronic diagnostic equipment. Ability to properly operate hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic equipment. Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record/MVR due to operation of a company service truck. Must be able to pass a drug screening. Must be dependable and capable of reporting to work as scheduled. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Must demonstrate good judgment when determining appropriate diagnostic and repair procedures. Must be able to safely perform the physical duties associated with heavy-duty truck repair. Diagnostic Software Experience Experience with the following diagnostic platforms is strongly preferred: Volvo PTT / Tech Tool Allison DOC Cummins INSITE DiagnosticLink 8 DAVIE4 / PACCAR Experience with additional OEM or aftermarket diagnostic platforms is a plus. Preferred Experience Previous experience working on refuse trucks, garbage trucks, roll-off trucks, front loaders, rear loaders, or automated side loaders . Experience diagnosing and repairing refuse-body hydraulic systems. Experience with waste compactors and compactor systems is a plus. Experience performing mobile or roadside service.
