Hardware & Building Materials Manager – Contractor Sales Counter

Job Summary We are looking for an experienced Hardware & Building Materials Manager to join our front sales counter team. This is not an entry-level retail position. We are seeking someone with extensive knowledge of lumber, hardware, plumbing, electrical supplies, and general construction materials who can confidently assist professional contractors and homeowners. Responsibilities Assist contractors, builders, remodelers, and homeowners at our front sales counter. Provide knowledgeable recommendations on lumber, building materials, hardware, plumbing, and electrical supplies. Help customers identify the correct fasteners, fittings, tools, connectors, and building products for their projects. Answer construction-related product questions and help customers solve problems. Assist with material estimates, takeoffs, quotes, and customer orders. Help manage hardware inventory, purchasing, stocking, and product organization. Identify opportunities to improve product selection and increase hardware sales. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional sales counter and hardware department. Build lasting relationships with contractors through exceptional service. Assist with training and supporting other counter employees. Work closely with store management and lumberyard personnel to ensure excellent customer service. Required Qualifications Experience in hardware, lumber, building materials, construction, or a closely related field. Strong practical knowledge of lumber, fasteners, tools, and general building materials. Working knowledge of residential plumbing and electrical supplies. Ability to communicate effectively with professional contractors and DIY customers. Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-first attitude. Basic computer skills and willingness to learn our sales and inventory systems. Dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
