Fleet Trailer Refrigeration Mechanic
Mid Atlantic XpressJob Summary - As the Fleet Trailer Refrigeration Mechanic you will be responsible for preventative maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, and complex mechanical repairs on refrigerated and dry van trailers. This role requires expertise in both general semi-trailer maintenance and specialized cooling systems (salary to commensurate with experience). Key Responsibilities are Refrigeration Maintenance: Troubleshoot, service, and repair trailer refrigeration units (TRUs), including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and cooling controls. Refrigerant Handling: Recover, evacuate, and charge refrigerants safely according to environmental guidelines. Trailer & Chassis Repair: Inspect and repair trailer brakes, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), suspension, landing gear, and electrical/lighting systems. Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine FHWA inspections, oil changes, belt replacements, and pre-trip inspections on transport cooling units. Structural Repairs: Perform basic welding, cutting, and brazing on trailer frames, doors, and sub-frames. Documentation: Record all parts used, diagnostics performed, and hours worked in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] Qualifications & Requirements Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; technical training or certification in diesel mechanics or HVAC/refrigeration preferred. Experience: 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in semi-trailer maintenance or transport refrigeration repair. Certifications: EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal or Type II) for handling refrigerants, and a valid driver's license. A Class A CDL is a plus. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of 12V electrical systems, diesel engines powering TRUs, air brakes, and welding (MIG/stick).
