Fleet Safety Manager

Fleet Manager – Trucking / Transportation MIT Logistics Inc. Location: Newburgh, NY Job Type: Full-Time MIT Logistics Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly organized Fleet Manager to oversee the daily operation, performance, maintenance, and safety of our growing fleet. The ideal candidate has strong experience in the trucking industry, understands driver management and DOT compliance, and can keep trucks moving safely and efficiently while controlling operating costs. Responsibilities Manage daily operations of company trucks and drivers Monitor truck availability, utilization, mileage, and performance Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and breakdowns Communicate daily with drivers, dispatchers, safety, and maintenance departments Track equipment downtime and ensure trucks return to service quickly Monitor driver performance, attendance, home-time schedules, and productivity Review fuel usage, idle time, tolls, maintenance expenses, and other fleet costs Help improve MPG and reduce unnecessary operating expenses Ensure trucks and trailers remain compliant with DOT and FMCSA requirements Monitor vehicle inspections, registrations, permits, and maintenance records Follow up on roadside inspections, violations, accidents, and equipment issues Assist with driver coaching and corrective action when necessary Coordinate truck assignments for new and existing drivers Maintain accurate fleet and maintenance records Work closely with management to improve fleet efficiency and profitability Respond quickly to breakdowns and other urgent operational issues Requirements Previous Fleet Manager or trucking management experience required Strong knowledge of the U.S. trucking and transportation industry Experience managing Class 8 trucks and commercial drivers Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and compliance Understanding of preventive maintenance and commercial truck repairs Familiarity with ELD/GPS tracking and fleet-management systems Strong leadership and driver-management skills Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities Ability to work in a fast-paced transportation environment Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Comfortable using computers, spreadsheets, email, and transportation software Ability to analyze fleet costs and operational performance Must be dependable, professional, and able to take ownership of fleet operations Preferred Qualifications Experience with Volvo and Freightliner trucks Reefer and Dry Van fleet experience Experience reviewing CSA/safety performance Experience managing preventive-maintenance schedules Knowledge of fuel-cost management and cost-per-mile analysis Experience managing a regional and OTR fleet What We Offer Competitive salary based on experience Full-time position Growing trucking company with opportunities for advancement Professional and fast-paced work environment Direct involvement with company management Opportunity to help build and improve fleet operations About MIT Logistics MIT Logistics Inc. is a growing transportation company specializing in Regional and OTR trucking operations , including Reefer and Dry Van freight.
