Position Summary Under general supervision performs skilled repair work in overhauling, repairing and maintaining a wide variety of diesel and gasoline powered automotive, stationary engine/power generation, and earth- moving construction equipment. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on trucks, construction equipment, trailers, generators and small equipment. Perform general repairs found on preventative maintenance inspections. Performs visual and mechanical tests of vehicles or equipment to determine the nature and extent of repairs needed. May use electronic diagnostic equipment. Adjusts, aligns, or replaces chassis parts, such as steering assemblies, brakes, wheels and axles. Performs maintenance and repair of stationary engines and power generation equipment. Maintains tools and equipment in proper condition by cleaning, sharpening and oiling; keeps the work area in a neat and orderly condition. Perform related work as required. Must be able to perform safety sensitive functions. In addition to the above, the Fleet Sr. Mechanic will also be responsible for the following: Assist in training personnel in standard job methods and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, and safe working practices. Perform DOT inspections in accordance to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
