Fleet Mechanic

JOB TITLE: Fleet Mechanic FLEET MECHANIC $47,021-$67,654 WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt PAY GRADE / DAYS OF DUTY: LT-0 / 248 IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Fleet Maintenance Supervisor DEPARTMENT: Transportation JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for performing daily vehicle repair and maintenance tasks to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all district vehicles and equipment. Duties include both routine and complex mechanical work, while prioritizing safety, performance, and appearance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Diagnose and repair mechanical issues, including major and minor assemblies, engines, drivetrains, components, and systems. Perform repairs and maintenance on automotive and HVAC systems. Conduct preventive maintenance such as oil changes, replacement of wipers and lights, and scheduled servicing. Perform major brake system repairs and replace tires. Maintain responsibility for the upkeep, safe operation, preventive care, and inventory of district vehicles, tools, and equipment. Ensure all security systems are functioning properly and are set as required. Clean and maintain the shop and bus parking lot to promote a safe work environment. Ensure the bus lots are secured daily. Respond to service calls for equipment breakdowns in the field. Accurately document all work performed using appropriate systems. Maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with team members. Follow verbal and written instructions with accuracy. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and continuously upgrade skills. Assume bus driver duties when substitute drivers are unavailable. Perform fabrication work as needed. Willingness to mentor or assist less experienced mechanics or helpers as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by the department. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Frequent physical activity required, including sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, and lifting items up to 70 lbs. Regular exposure to dust, dirt, extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, fumes, odors, humidity, and low-light environments.
