Pocono Transportation Inc. — Covington Twp, PA Full-time | $65,000–$80,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications, plus bonuses and benefits About Us Pocono Transportation Inc. is a family-owned school transportation company serving our community since 1936. We are seeking a dependable, mechanically experienced Fleet Manager to oversee approximately 74 school transportation vehicles and lead our maintenance team. Position Overview This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for keeping our buses and vans safe, reliable, and ready for daily routes and trips. The Fleet Manager will supervise an early technician, vehicle cleaner, and laborer while working closely with drivers, the transportation office, and ownership. Responsibilities Plan and oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, and vehicle inspections. Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs as needed. Assign daily work and supervise maintenance, cleaning, and fleet support staff. Review driver vehicle inspection reports and ensure defects are addressed before vehicles return to service. Coordinate vehicle availability and spare vehicles with the transportation office. Respond to breakdowns and arrange roadside assistance, repairs, and replacement vehicles. Maintain accurate maintenance records and track inspection deadlines. Prepare the fleet for the annual Pennsylvania State Police inspection. Manage parts inventory, purchasing, warranties, and outside repair vendors. Use Samsara and digital inspection tools to monitor maintenance needs and vehicle concerns. Monitor repair costs, downtime, and recurring problems. Maintain a safe, organized shop and prepare vehicles for seasonal operating conditions. Perform or coordinate winter parking lot maintenance, including snow removal and ice treatment. Manage or coordinate vehicle park-out arrangements so buses and vans are properly positioned and accessible for scheduled departures. Communicate fleet status and recommend equipment repairs or replacements to ownership. Establish backup coverage and communicate outstanding repairs and priorities to the maintenance team. Qualifications Experience repairing and maintaining school buses, commercial trucks, or a comparable fleet. Working knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, brakes, electrical systems, and diagnostic equipment. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to lead a small team while actively participating in maintenance work. Comfortable using computers and digital maintenance systems. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Previous supervisory or fleet management experience preferred. CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements and qualification to operate vehicles with air brakes preferred. Pennsylvania safety inspection certifications preferred. Candidates willing to obtain required licenses and certifications will be considered. Ability to meet applicable employment screening and school transportation clearance requirements. Schedule and Availability Regular schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. , with a 30-minute unpaid meal break. The maintenance team’s regular schedules are: Early technician: 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Vehicle cleaner: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Laborer: 8:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. The Fleet Manager must be reachable and available whenever a company bus is operating, including early mornings, evenings, and weekend trips, unless coverage has been assigned to a qualified backup. This includes responding to urgent vehicle concerns, coordinating breakdown assistance, and reporting in person when necessary. The manager has authority to appoint qualified backup personnel for vacations, illness, and other periods of unavailability. Coverage arrangements must be communicated to the transportation office.
