Town of Deerfield, Ma. Public WorksJob Summary The Town of Deerfield is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical systems, with experience in maintaining and repairing various types of heavy equipment, farm machinery, automotive vehicles, and small engine equipment. This role requires a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving, ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and safely. The goal of this position is to train and acquire licensures in order to fully qualify to be the Department Mechanic. The Town of Deerfield will cover the costs of training. (CDL, Hoisting, ASE) with an agreement of longevity. If the candidate currently holds a cdl and Ma. hoisting license, they may be eligible for a higher payrate (depending on qualifications) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various type of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a reasonable assignment to the position. · Maintain and repair vehicles and equipment for both the Department of Public Works and The Deerfield Police Department. Including but not limited to greasing, cleaning, repairing, replacing blades, and preventative maintenance. · Assist with street maintenance and repair projects by performing manual work and operating specialized equipment, which include but are not limited to constructing and repairing streets, roads, sidewalks, manholes, catch basins and drainage systems, and the application of pavement markings and paint. · Perform manual work and/or equipment operations such as raking, dumping, spreading, grading, and rolling of asphalt, gravel, stone, and other material for streets, roads, and sidewalks, as well as cutting and chipping brush and trees and removal of brush and leaves while maintaining roadsides. · Repair damaged curbing, guardrails, street signs, plowing snow and sanding and salting streets, sweeping streets, and other maintenance, care, upkeep, repair, marking and beautification projects of streets, parking lots, and other municipal property. · Repair main breaks, and repair and install new pipes and house services. · Flush water/sewer lines. · Clean waterways, ditch lines and catch basins. · Operate light equipment of high complexity including brush cutter, asphalt roller, paving machine, street sweeper, hedge trimmers, lawn mowers. · Train to operate heavy equipment of high complexity including but not limited to backhoes and loaders · Train to operate heavy vehicles providing roadway snow removal and salting/sanding with goal of licensure. · Perform roadside mowing and lawn mowing. · Perform hot patching. · Perform tree trimming and removing work. Perform a variety of related duties as necessary. Perform preventive/repair maintenance work on public buildings. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Under general supervision of the Superintendent, the employee is familiar with the work routine and uses initiative in conducting recurring assignments independently. The supervisor provides additional, specific instruction for new, difficult, or unusual assignments. The employee refers unusual situations to the supervisor for advice and further instructions. JUDGMENT AND COMPLEXITY The work consists of a variety of duties which follow standardized practices, procedures, regulations, and/or guidelines. The sequence of work and/or procedures can vary according to the nature of the transaction and/or the information involved or sought, in a particular situation. Informed judgment is required to locate, select and apply the most pertinent practice, procedure, regulation, or guideline.
