JOB TITLE: Fleet Assistant DATE: October 2026 DEPARTMENT: Police Administration FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Administrative Services Sergeant POSITION SUMMARY: A Fleet Assistant is a part-time non-sworn employee that is trained and assigned to assist the Fleet Coordinator of the Quincy Police Department by performing a variety of support service tasks. JOB FUNCTIONS: Conducting traffic/speed surveys when requested Process all police department licensing requirements in accordance with city of Quincy ordinance Includes the following licenses: petting zoo, liquor, taxicab, special events, live entertainment, secondhand store, peddlers and any other applicable licensing request Assisting patrol officers at crime scenes by transporting equipment and large items of evidence that don't require lab analysis Conduct regular patrols of the community looking for safety/nuisance hazards, identify and resolve violations of City codes and regulations Tagging and towing of abandoned vehicles Creating, filing and mailing department letters Drive department vehicles to central services or other businesses for maintenance work. Picking up and logging into evidence abandoned bikes The functions and duties listed in this job description are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position Fleet assistant is expressly limited and prevented from participating in crimes in progress or any other call which would constitute a hazard for an unarmed officer. The Fleet Assistant shall obey all traffic laws while on duty and shall not drive with emergency equipment operating on department vehicles. The emergency lights will be used to give a warning when stationary and in the performance of traffic control functions or other assigned duties when necessary The Fleet Assistant shall assume no police powers except where assignments call for traffic direction or tagging/towing of vehicles REQUIREMENTS: CERTIFICATION/LICENSING Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license or a valid driver's license from any other state. EDUCATION: Minimum of a high school diploma TRAINING: Completes initial training as required to adequately perform basic Fleet assistant duties. EXPERIENCE: Familiar with the city of Quincy geography. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Understand the geography of the city of Quincy. Knowledge of computer software applications, i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook Must possess excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills Excellent telephone and oral communication skills. Must possess excellent organizational and problem-solving skills Must be courteous, considerate and tactful in all contacts with officers, employees, and citizens High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive confidential situations and documentation Ability to research and analyze various types of data Ability to organize and prioritize work Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Vehicle, computer, fax machine, telephone, two-way radio, calculator, scanner, general office and police related equipment. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Walking distances of one-half mile, standing, sitting, kneeling, stooping, lift a minimum of 25 pounds WORKING CONDITIONS: Works part of the time outdoors, and part of the time in an office setting. Expected to be consistently reliable and punctual for scheduled work.
