Field Technician
Paisano LabsPosition Summary The Field Technician supports Gordon Technologies' downhole tool operations, splitting time between the Paisano Labs facility in Houston and third-party service provider offices in the Houston area. In the lab, the role assists engineers and senior technicians with assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of resistivity tools. At partner sites, the Field Technician serves as Gordon's on-site point of contact for integrating Gordon assets with third-party Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS), executing incoming and outgoing testing, and producing the documentation that travels with each tool to the wellsite. Success requires hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently while representing Gordon professionally in customer-facing environments. Key Responsibilities At Paisano Labs (Houston Office) Assist engineers and senior technicians with mechanical and electrical assembly of resistivity tools. Perform sub-assembly fit-up, torque verification, and continuity checks per Gordon work instructions. Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis on tools returned from the field, including disassembly, inspection, and component-level diagnostics. Operate bench test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, custom test fixtures) to validate performance against acceptance criteria. Maintain a clean, 5S-compliant work area; track tools, fixtures, and consumables; document assembly steps, test results, and non-conformances in Gordon's tracking systems. At Third-Party Partner Offices (Houston Area) Serve as Gordon's on-site representative and primary point of contact for partner integration activities. Lead build-up and integration of Gordon assets — resistivity and related downhole tools — with third-party Rotary Steerable Systems. Assist with asset inventory management at third-party offices. Coordinate with partner technicians and operations staff to schedule integration work, sequence builds, and resolve fit, form, or interface issues. Perform outgoing testing on integrated assemblies, including surface tests, communications checks, and pre-deployment functional verification. Perform incoming testing on integrated assemblies, disassemble Gordon assets, and communicate findings to the Gordon Engineering team. Complete and submit all required documentation: build sheets, test reports, serial number tracking, calibration records, and shipping paperwork. Escalate technical issues to Gordon engineering promptly with clear written summaries and supporting test data; represent Gordon professionally with partner personnel, customers, and visiting field engineers. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate's degree in electronics, mechanical technology, or related field preferred. 2–5 years of hands-on experience with downhole tools, MWD/LWD equipment, or comparable oilfield service hardware. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and assembly procedures. Working knowledge of basic test instrumentation (multimeters, oscilloscopes, insulation testers) and mechanical hand tools (calibrated torque wrenches, calipers). Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable producing clear documentation and interfacing with partner personnel. Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable personal transportation for daily travel between sites. Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and partner-required onboarding (e.g., RigPass, H2S Awareness, SafeLand) prior to or shortly after start. Preferred Qualifications Direct experience with resistivity tools or other LWD sensor packages; experience integrating with Rotary Steerable Systems from major service providers. Familiarity with quality systems (API Q1, API Q2, or ISO 9001) and outgoing inspection workflows. Prior customer-facing or partner-facing experience in an oi…
