Responsibilities Prepare detailed project estimates by analyzing blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications using estimating software such as HeavyBid, Planswift or similar tools. Review construction drawings thoroughly to interpret technical details and accurately estimate material requirements, labor costs, and equipment needs. Develop comprehensive project budgets, including cost management strategies and cost control measures throughout project execution. Utilize construction management software and spreadsheets to track costs, update estimates, and manage project schedules effectively. Negotiate with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to secure favorable pricing while maintaining quality standards. Manage multiple projects simultaneously by coordinating with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery and adherence to budgets. Communicate clearly with clients regarding project scope, pricing proposals, and any changes or adjustments needed during the estimation process. Oversee construction site activities when necessary, ensuring that work aligns with project plans and safety standards. Conduct regular review of construction drawings and technical documents to ensure accuracy in estimating material quantities and costs. Lead efforts in cost control by monitoring expenditures against budgets and implementing corrective actions as needed. Experience Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the commercial construction industry. Strong background in construction estimating software such as HeavyBid or Bluebeam; proficiency in Quickbook Enterprise, is a plus. Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, and estimating material requirements from blueprints. Demonstrated ability to develop accurate cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services. Familiarity with construction management software tools for scheduling, budgeting, and document control. Excellent negotiation skills with vendors, subcontractors, and clients to achieve competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards. Construction site experience is highly desirable to better understand on-the-ground project challenges. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel spreadsheets for data analysis and reporting. Effective communication skills for client interaction, team coordination, and report writing. Preferred Experience 3–5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, earthwork, or site development preferred. Software Skills Experience with construction estimating and takeoff software is preferred, including: PlanSwift or similar digital takeoff software Microsoft Excel PDF/plan review software QuickBooks or construction accounting/job-cost systems Contractor Foreman or similar construction management software AutoCAD/Civil 3D knowledge is a plus Strong understanding of underground utility construction methods. Experience estimating water main, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, force main, lift station, and site-development work.
