This is a critical role supporting complex power infrastructure, industrial, federal, and commercial projects. About Gardner Zemke Founded in 1965 and based in Albuquerque, Gardner Zemke is a full-service mechanical and electrical contractor specializing in design-assist and construction of MEP systems. Our electrical work ranges from commercial installations to high-voltage powerplant and substation projects, including GSU transformer replacements, medium- and high-voltage systems, generators, switchgear, and related infrastructure. We have a long history of successful work at national laboratories, military installations, hydroelectric facilities, and other critical infrastructure across the western United States. Position Summary This role combines detailed electrical estimating, materials and equipment procurement, and proactive business development. You will prepare competitive estimates, manage the procurement process for project materials and long-lead equipment, and actively identify and pursue new opportunities that align with our capabilities in power systems and infrastructure work. Key Responsibilities Estimating · Review plans, specifications, and RFPs to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. · Prepare detailed estimates and proposals for electrical scopes including power distribution, substations, transformers, generators, switchgear, high- and medium-voltage systems, and related work. · Support constructability reviews, value engineering, and basis-of-estimate documentation. · Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure estimates reflect practical installation methods and current market conditions. Procurement · Source and evaluate vendors; solicit, level, and negotiate quotations for electrical materials and equipment. · Issue and manage purchase orders, track lead times, and ensure materials meet project specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules. · Maintain strong supplier relationships and stay current on market pricing, availability, and supply-chain conditions for critical electrical components. · Support compliance with project, client, and federal requirements as applicable. Business Development & New Opportunities · Identify and pursue new project opportunities through RFPs, industry networks, client relationships, and market research (utilities, federal agencies, national labs, industrial, and commercial clients). · Support proposal development and responses. · Help expand the company’s presence in power infrastructure, high-voltage, and related work while representing Gardner Zemke’s capabilities and values. Additional · Collaborate across estimating, project management, engineering, and field operations. · Maintain organized records and support the company’s strong emphasis on safety, quality, and schedule performance. · Occasional regional travel for site visits, pre-bid meetings, or client discussions may be required.
