Electrical Engineer
COOECKey Responsibilities Review and verify electrical design packages, including equipment layouts, grounding systems, and engineering calculations. Prepare RFQ and purchase order (PO) packages for HV distribution and power line systems, switchgear, MCC and VFD systems, 600V MCCs, UPS systems, and transformers. Perform technical evaluations of vendor bids and review vendor drawings for compliance, accuracy, and approval. Develop electrical single-line diagrams for LV, MV, and HV power systems, as well as MV/LV VFD motor control systems. Provide technical and engineering oversight for electrical material procurement, including preparation and review of Material Requisitions (MRs) and Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs). Perform electrical load calculations and size electrical equipment in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards. Develop and maintain electrical load lists and equipment lists. Participate in equipment Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), inspections, and substation Integrated Factory Acceptance Testing (IFAT). Ensure electrical engineering activities and deliverables comply with applicable company and client standards. Review electrical equipment documentation, including Material Requisitions, vendor drawings, data sheets, and technical documentation for electrical materials and components. Provide field engineering support and review at construction sites when required to assist with construction activities and resolve technical issues. Perform electrical system load studies using ETAP and develop area classification designs. Provide electrical engineering support and technical input to other engineering disciplines. Develop single-line diagrams and grounding system designs. Lead and support Electric Heat Tracing (EHT) design activities. Identify and incorporate electrical value-engineering opportunities into project designs. Select appropriate electrical materials and develop electrical equipment designs in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards, and engineering practices. Contribute technical input to the resolution of electrical engineering and design issues throughout the project. Work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. 10+ years of electrical engineering and design experience; field experience is considered an asset. Experience in the oil and gas industry is preferred, with familiarity with SAGD facilities considered an asset. Experience in other relevant industries, including mining, pipelines, gas treatment, gas compression packages, refineries, and upgraders, will also be considered. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, with the ability to authenticate electrical engineering documents and drawings. Demonstrated experience with LV and MV electrical power distribution systems; HV power distribution experience is considered an asset. Experience with electrical protection systems and MCC building projects. Strong technical knowledge of motor control, VFD systems, EHT, lighting, grounding, and ETAP modelling. Proven experience developing detailed electrical designs for industrial electrical systems. Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving abilities, with the capability to assess and resolve technical challenges effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team while also working independently with minimal supervision. Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship from COOEC CA.
