Electrical Designer
COOECKey Responsibilities Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, regulations, and project specifications. Develop electrical engineering and design deliverables and complete supporting technical analyses and calculations. Contribute to project planning activities, including work scope development, scheduling, resource planning, and cost estimating. Identify, assess, and communicate electrical design issues and technical concerns to clients, vendors, project teams, and other stakeholders. Provide technical support to procurement activities, including preparation of material requisitions and completion of technical bid evaluations. Collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, project personnel, and other disciplines within a multi-disciplinary project environment. Perform electrical power system studies using ETAP or SKM software. Complete protective relay coordination studies and establish appropriate relay settings. Perform a variety of electrical engineering calculations, including: Electrical load analysis Equipment sizing Voltage drop calculations Motor starting studies Neutral grounding resistor (NGR) sizing Power factor correction Develop electrical designs and drawings for substation layouts, grounding systems, electrical equipment arrangements, MV/LV motor control schematics, control panel layouts, cable schedules, and cable tray routing. Prepare area classification drawings in accordance with applicable codes and standards. Review P&IDs, mechanical equipment load lists, and related project documentation to identify and incorporate required electrical design information. Develop electrical design deliverables associated with electric heat tracing systems. Review vendor drawings, data sheets, and technical documentation to verify compliance with project specifications and requirements. Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) and develop accurate material and quantity estimates. Report to the Electrical Lead or Project Lead, as assigned, and support project objectives as required. Qualifications Completion of a two-year diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology or a three- to four-year apprenticeship program in a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of experience working as an Electrical Designer within the oil and gas industry. Strong knowledge of electrical design tools, modelling platforms, and engineering software applications. Demonstrated ability to make sound, day-to-day technical decisions while maintaining alignment with project specifications, standards, and requirements. Proven experience working within multi-disciplinary engineering and project environments.
