Courier Transportation Dispatcher Location: Richmond, VA Pay: $22.00–$26.00 per hour Job Type: Full-Time Shifts Available: Day & Night Shifts Experience: Previous Dispatching Experience Required Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and highly organized Courier Transportation Dispatcher to join our growing transportation operations team in Richmond, Virginia . This position plays a critical role in coordinating and monitoring daily courier transportation operations, including scheduled routes, dedicated routes, and time-sensitive STAT and on-demand transportation requests . The Dispatcher will serve as a primary point of communication between couriers, drivers, independent contractors, customers, facilities, and operations management. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced transportation environment where priorities can change quickly and strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential. We currently have opportunities available for both day and night shifts . Previous dispatching experience is required. Previous experience using Accelerator is strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Dispatch and coordinate couriers and drivers throughout the Richmond market and surrounding service areas. Manage scheduled, dedicated, STAT, and on-demand courier transportation requests. Assign transportation requests based on driver availability, location, vehicle requirements, customer needs, and delivery deadlines. Monitor active routes and transportation requests from initial dispatch through final delivery. Maintain consistent communication with couriers and drivers throughout the shift. Monitor pickup and delivery times to ensure customer service commitments are met. Respond quickly to urgent transportation requests, delays, call-outs, route changes, breakdowns, and other service issues. Coordinate replacement or backup drivers when route coverage is required. Communicate professionally with customers, facilities, drivers, contractors, and operations management. Provide customers and internal leadership with accurate transportation status updates when necessary. Verify and maintain accurate Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation. Enter and update route, driver, and delivery information accurately within the transportation management system. Document driver communications, delays, route changes, service failures, and other important operational information. Escalate significant service, safety, driver, or customer concerns to management. Assist drivers and couriers with route information, pickup instructions, delivery requirements, and operational questions. Complete detailed shift handoffs between day and night dispatch teams to ensure continuity of operations. Maintain a high level of professionalism, urgency, accuracy, and customer service throughout the shift. Required Qualifications Previous dispatching experience is required. Previous experience in courier transportation, logistics, trucking, delivery, final-mile, or a similar transportation environment is strongly preferred. Ability to manage multiple drivers, routes, customers, and transportation requests simultaneously. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and time-management abilities. Strong attention to detail and accurate data-entry skills. Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment. Strong computer skills and the ability to learn transportation management and dispatch systems. Ability to communicate professionally with drivers, independent contractors, customers, and management. Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential.
