ABOUT PHELPS TRUCK SALES Phelps Truck Sales is a family-owned dealership specializing in used commercial trucks and heavy equipment. We’re looking for a dependable, hands-on mechanic to help inspect, repair, and prepare trucks and equipment for sale. This position offers a variety of work across different makes, models, and commercial truck applications. ABOUT THE POSITION You’ll work alongside our shop team and ownership to identify needed repairs, complete quality work, and help keep inventory moving through the shop. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates clearly, and follows through on the job. RESPONSIBILITIES Inspect used commercial trucks and equipment to identify mechanical problems and maintenance needs. Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems within your experience level. Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, filters, and lubrication. Repair and service brakes, suspension, steering, cooling systems, and other truck components. Use diagnostic tools and service information to troubleshoot problems. Assist with truck preparation and specialized projects, including hooklift and SwapLoader builds, as needed. Communicate repair findings, parts needs, and job progress to the shop team. Check completed work for proper operation and report any remaining concerns. Keep work areas organized and follow safe shop practices. QUALIFICATIONS Hands-on experience repairing diesel trucks, commercial vehicles, or heavy equipment. Working knowledge of truck mechanical systems and troubleshooting. Ability to complete assigned work carefully and efficiently. Dependable attendance and strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently within your skill level and collaborate with a small team. Willingness to learn unfamiliar equipment and ask questions when needed. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Medium- and heavy-duty truck repair. Electrical diagnostics and diesel diagnostic software. Air brakes and hydraulic systems. Welding, fabrication, or truck body installation. Hooklift or other vocational truck equipment. Welding experience would be a major plus TOOLS AND DRIVING REQUIREMENTS Personal tools will be needed Would be beneficial to have CDLs but not a requirement PAY AND BENEFITS Pay: $28 - $35, based on experience and qualifications. Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday Overtime Benefits: 401K matching, Paid Holiday, Health Insurance.
