Depot/ Yard Manager

Job Summary: The Depot Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the terminal yard, including the supervision of outside personnel and operations associated with the depot, maintenance, gate activities, and depot and transportation equipment. The position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and monitoring these activities in alignment with the Terminal Manager's direction and company objectives for safety, service quality, operational efficiency, and financial performance. The Depot Manager is also responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, coordinating tank container maintenance activities, managing vendor relationships, supporting customer requirements, and ensuring that established company policies and procedures are consistently followed. Hire, supervise, train, manage, and develop employees to support operational objectives and maintain a productive, accountable team. Coordinate daily yard activities, including depot operations, gate operations, maintenance activities, and equipment movements. Monitor employee performance and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed accurately, safely, and efficiently. Ensure employees, vendors, and outside personnel follow established company safety procedures and applicable site requirements. Lead and support terminal safety programs, initiatives, and ongoing safety improvements. Identify and communicate unsafe conditions, operational concerns, and incidents in accordance with company reporting requirements. Maintain accurate inventory records for parts, supplies, containers, and other assigned equipment. Monitor container and equipment movements to support accurate inventory control and operational visibility. Coordinate maintenance activities and manage customer expectations regarding the condition and maintenance status of tank containers. Monitor equipment requiring inspection, maintenance, repair, or other service. Manage vendor relationships associated with tank container washing, maintenance, and related services. Monitor vendor performance and communicate service issues that may affect operational efficiency or customer commitments. Provide professional customer service and respond promptly to customer inquiries and operational concerns. Ensure customer reports and required operational documentation are prepared accurately and delivered within established timeframes. Communicate container status, maintenance progress, and service-related issues to the appropriate internal and external contacts. Achieve financial objectives through effective expense management, productivity improvements, and identification of sales growth opportunities. Assist the Terminal Manager in developing terminal budgets, operating plans, and annual performance goals. Monitor inventory usage, vendor costs, and operational expenses within the scope of the position. Maintain accurate operational records and complete required reports in a timely manner. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, control costs, and strengthen service delivery. Communicate and enforce company policies, procedures, and operational standards. Coordinate with the Terminal Manager and other relevant departments to address operational challenges, staffing requirements, and opportunities for improvement. Perform other duties as necessary to support terminal operations and the overall success of the company. Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements: Minimum of 2 years of operational management experience. Demonstrated leadership ability and hands-on experience directing a diverse team toward common operational goals. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to adapt to changing operational priorities while maintaining alignment with company objectives. Strong analytical, decision-making, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
