Title- Customs Specialist Position- Temporary Part-Time Contract (Could lead to a permanent Full -Time role due to the growth and workload of the department) Our Logistics team is looking for an experienced customs professional to support inbound and outbound international shipments. This role works closely with Global Sourcing on incoming freight and International Sales on outgoing orders. You will be a key point of contact for tariff classification, customs documentation, broker coordination, and shipment visibility, with particular attention to U.S.-bound goods. Job duties: Research and document product classifications under the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and the Canadian Customs Tariff, as applicable. Verify product descriptions, declared values, country of origin, duty rates, and supporting information with suppliers and customs brokers. Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading or air waybills, certificates of origin, and other required shipping and customs records. Coordinate import and export clearance with brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and internal stakeholders; investigate holds, discrepancies, and delays. Plan and monitor shipments by sea, air, and ground, including cross-border transportation to the United States. Compare routes and services against delivery commitments, freight costs, and contractual requirements; arrange changes when needed. Keep classification decisions, shipment details, and compliance records accurate and accessible. Provide clear status updates and reports to internal teams and customers. Required experience and qualifications Current Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation. 3-5 years of experience in customs compliance, international logistics, transportation, or freight forwarding. Demonstrated experience with U.S. customs procedures, U.S. HTS classification, tariffs, duties, and cross-border shipments. Practical experience preparing or checking import and export documents and working with customs brokers. Working knowledge of ocean, air, and ground freight. Sound judgment, careful research, strong communication, and the ability to manage several shipments and deadlines at once. Strong Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with transportation or shipment tracking systems. Post-secondary education in supply chain, logistics, international trade, or a related field is an asset. Additional Information: Monday through Friday.
