Job Overview Leyendecker Supply Chain Solutions is seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer to join our Laredo office. The ideal candidate will have 3–5+ years of experience in customs brokerage, customs entry processing, import operations, freight forwarding, or a related logistics environment. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience processing customs entries and import documentation and will be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment. This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and customer service skills. The Customs Entry Writer will be responsible for processing entries, ISFs, and in-bond shipments, coordinating customs clearance activities, communicating with customers and service providers, and ensuring compliance with applicable customs regulations and requirements. Important Requirement: This position requires a minimum of seven (3-5) years of experience as a Customs Entry Writer in a licensed brokerage or freight forwarding environment. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered. Duties Prepare and submit customs entries accurately and within required deadlines. Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, purchase orders, and other import documentation for accuracy and completeness. Classify merchandise using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), as applicable. Prepare and transmit Importer Security Filings (ISF). Create, process, and monitor in-bond shipments. Ensure entries comply with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and all applicable import requirements. Apply applicable tariffs and trade measures, including Section 232, Section 301, and other special trade programs when required. Monitor shipment status and coordinate cargo releases, deliveries, and customs clearance activities. Identify discrepancies, missing information, or compliance concerns and work with customers to resolve issues promptly. Communicate with clients regarding entry requirements, documentation, classifications, shipment status, and other customs-related questions. Provide excellent customer service by responding to client inquiries in a professional and timely manner. Assist with onboarding new customers and maintaining positive client relationships. Prepare customer quotes and respond to requests for customs brokerage and related services. Prepare and process customer invoices and assist with billing-related activities. Maintain accurate records of entries, shipments, billing, and customer communications. Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, warehouses, customers, and government agencies as needed. Identify and communicate potential compliance, operational, or customer service issues to management. Stay current on customs regulations, tariff changes, and import/export procedures. Work efficiently and accurately while managing multiple shipments, entries, and deadlines. Qualifications 3–5+ years of experience in customs brokerage, customs entry processing, import operations, freight forwarding, or a related logistics environment. Experience processing customs entries, ISFs, in-bond shipments, and import documentation. Working knowledge of U.S. Customs and Border Protection regulations and import requirements. Experience with customer service, shipment coordination, and invoicing preferred. Experience using ACE, NetCHB, Descartes, CargoWise, or similar customs software required. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple shipments, entries, and deadlines. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and resolve documentation and entry-related issues.
