CULINARY OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Soup Meister’s Nephew – North Vancouver, BC

Full-Time | Leadership Role | Hands-On Production + Team Supervision

The Soup Meister’s Nephew is growing, and we're looking for a kitchen leader who can run the day-to-day operations of our high-volume soup production kitchen. This role allows the Owner/Head Chef to step back from daily operations — and puts you in the driver’s seat of maintaining our brand’s commitment to “Nothing But The Best.”

This is NOT a traditional restaurant GM role, and it’s NOT a typical Head Chef position.
It’s a hybrid leadership position for someone who loves:

  • Hands-on cooking
  • Mentoring a small, talented team
  • Running a tight, organized production kitchen
  • Keeping quality + consistency incredibly high
  • Improving systems, refining recipes, and keeping the wheels turning smoothly

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Daily Production & Quality

  • Oversee daily soup production (35+ rotating SKUs)
  • Support, guide and monitor helpers during prep, production, and service
  • Taste, refine, and adjust recipes to maintain consistency
  • Ensure all soups meet our standards for quality, texture, seasoning, and appearance
  • Lead cooking on key days or during high-volume batches

Team Leadership

  • Supervise all kitchen staff during production through to packaging
  • Assign tasks and monitor progress
  • Train new staff on recipes, techniques, and safety
  • Maintain a positive, high-performance kitchen culture
  • Hold staff accountable to quality and standards

Operations & Systems

  • Manage daily/weekly ordering and inventory
  • Ensure FIFO, waste control, portioning accuracy, and recipe adherence
  • Maintain daily checklists, logs, and production sheets
  • Oversee kitchen organization, cleanliness, and food safety standards
  • Work closely with ownership on weekly planning, menu rotation, and targets

Equipment & Facilities

  • Ensure kettles, ovens, walk-ins, blast chillers, and tools are used properly
  • Manage equipment maintenance, cleaning and troubleshooting when needed
  • Keep the kitchen safe, efficient, and inspection-ready

WHO YOU ARE

  • A hands-on leader who enjoys cooking, customer service and team management
  • Someone who thrives in high-volume, scratch-cooking environments
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong palate + recipe instincts
  • Clear communicator with natural coaching ability
  • Comfortable making decisions, solving problems, and running a team
  • Experienced in production kitchens, commissaries, or large-batch cooking environments

Experience required:

  • 3–5 years in a leadership kitchen role (Sous Chef, Head Chef, Kitchen Manager, etc.)
  • Strong production or batch-cooking experience is a huge asset
  • Comfortable with volume, kettles, large-scale prep, and daily deadlines

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $50,000–$60,000 Base salary (depending on experience)
  • Approx. $5,000/year from pooled cash tips (paid weekly)
  • Up to $12,000/year performance bonus (paid monthly if metrics are met)
  • Paid lunch
  • Staff meals + discounts
  • Uniforms provided
  • Growth potential as the company expands

WHY JOIN US?

  • You’ll lead a beloved, community-rooted brand with a 25+ year legacy
  • You’ll run a team that takes pride in craft, quality, and consistency
  • You’ll have autonomy to make decisions and improve systems
  • You’ll be part of a growing business with ambitious expansion plans
  • Latest shift worked - 7pm - Continue your love of all things culinary while still being home before dinner.
