Cost Superintendent-Operations and Projects

(CFI) is seeking an experienced Cost Superintendent to lead cost control and production accounting across mining, aggregates, mineral processing, logistics, port operations and capital projects. This role connects financial reporting with operational performance, ensuring costs, production figures, inventory and contractor claims are accurate, supported and reconciled. Location and schedule This position requires onsite attendance in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador, Monday to Friday. The successful candidate must live locally within commuting distance or be willing to relocate to the area. This is not a fly-in/fly-out position. Camp accommodation is not provided. Key responsibilities Maintain cost models and publish reliable unit costs for each stage of operations. Develop and maintain standard costs, allocation methods and fixed and variable cost analyses. Reconcile production from mine planning and mined tonnes through stockpiles, processing, dispatch, port inventory and shipped product. Reconcile production records with the general ledger, physical counts and survey results. Prepare the monthly production statement in collaboration with Mining and Metallurgy. Develop and maintain bills of material, processing routings and consumption standards by ore type, blend and campaign. Maintain costing and bill of material structures in the ERP and report usage variances separately from price variances. Verify mining and major service provider claims against contract terms, approved rates and independently measured production. Assess contractor variations, reconcile claims and accruals, and maintain claims and disputes records. Support inventory valuation, operating budgets and forecasts. Prepare weekly cost and production dashboards and monthly variance reports with departmental input. Control capital project costs, including commitments, forecast final costs, changes, contingencies, cash flow and project close-out. Required qualifications and experience Bachelor’s degree in commerce, accounting or a related discipline, or an equivalent college diploma with relevant experience. CPA designation, advanced CPA candidacy or a recognized management accounting designation such as CIMA or legacy CMA. Equivalent demonstrated cost management experience will be considered. At least five years of cost or management accounting experience, including at least three years in mining, quarrying or mineral processing with direct plant exposure. Demonstrated production or metal accounting experience, including reconciliation from mine plan to shipped product and estimation of in-circuit inventory. Experience developing bills of material and consumption standards from first principles. Candidates will be asked to present a worked example. Experience verifying contractor claims and controlling project costs against approved authorizations for expenditure. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP costing and bill of material modules. Legal entitlement to work in Canada. Preferred qualifications Experience with Power BI or comparable reporting tools and SQL. Exposure to weighbridge, laboratory, fleet management and mass balance systems. You work effectively with Finance, Mining, Metallurgy, Procurement and project teams, explain findings clearly and maintain sound judgment when costs or claims are challenged.
