Duties Safely haul containers between the LA/Long Beach ports, rail yards and customer warehouses in the Carson, South Bay and Inland Empire areas Run regional round trips to the Phoenix/Goodyear, AZ area and Las Vegas, NV, etc. Safely operate tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles on over-the-road (OTR) routes, adhering strictly to DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods. Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times and fuel efficiency while maintaining compliance with all safety standards. Load and unload freight efficiently, including freight requiring manual handling or special equipment such as flatbeds or tankers. Transport a variety of cargo types, including refrigerated goods, automobile transportation, hazardous materials, or other freight requiring specialized handling. Ensure proper securing of loads according to logistics cargo handling standards to prevent shifting or damage during transit. Conduct pre-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to verify mechanical safety and compliance with FMCSA regulations before each journey. Maintain accurate delivery logs, shipment documentation, and inspection reports in accordance with DOT regulations. Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to confirm delivery schedules, address issues promptly, and ensure customer satisfaction. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and chassis, and report any defects Keep accurate ELD hours-of-service logs and complete delivery paperwork, including bills of lading, interchange receipts and proof of delivery Handle terminal procedures: appointments, gate transactions, in-gate/out-gate inspections and empty returns Communicate with dispatch on pickups, deliveries, wait times and any issues on the road Follow all DOT, FMCSA and CARB requirements and port terminal safety rules Qualifications Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience with manual transmission trucks is preferred. Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving across long distances. (2+years min) Knowledge of refrigerated trailer operations, flatbed hauling, tanker transport, and hazardous materials regulations is highly desirable. Ability to handle manual loading/unloading tasks safely and efficiently; familiarity with forklift operation is a plus. Strong understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) compliance standards. Excellent navigation skills using GPS systems; ability to plan efficient routes for over-the-road (OTR) journeys. Physical capability to perform manual handling tasks required for loading/unloading cargo; good stamina for long hours on the road.
