Repeat Diagnostics Inc. (RepeatDx) is a clinical diagnostic laboratory specializing in advanced laboratory testing, including peripheral blood telomere length analysis using Flow-FISH. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant provides essential technical and operational support to the Laboratory Operations team. The position is responsible for the accurate collection, receipt, identification, preparation, processing, and documentation of clinical specimens, as well as maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies, and work areas. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant works under established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and in collaboration with Laboratory Technologists and the Director, Laboratory Operations. The position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and adherence to laboratory quality and safety requirements. Qualifications CSMLS certification or an equivalent recognized clinical laboratory qualification is required. Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or diagnostic laboratory environment is preferred. Experience with blood and other biological specimens is an asset. Knowledge of specimen collection, identification, handling, preparation, and storage. Knowledge of laboratory safety, infection prevention, and quality-management practices. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures consistently. Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a laboratory team. Computer proficiency and experience with laboratory information systems or other laboratory databases is an asset. Demonstrated commitment to patient confidentiality and the protection of personal health information. Key ResponsibilitiesSpecimen Collection and Handling Receive and verify incoming patient specimens and laboratory requisitions. Confirm specimen identification, labeling, patient information, and specimen requirements. Prepare and process specimens for laboratory analysis according to established SOPs. Ensure specimens are appropriately stored, tracked, and prepared for testing. Identify and report specimens that do not meet established acceptance criteria. Maintain accurate specimen tracking and chain-of-custody documentation where applicable. Laboratory Operations Perform assigned laboratory support procedures in accordance with approved SOPs. Assist Laboratory Technologists with preparation of samples and materials required for testing. Follow all laboratory safety, infection prevention, and quality-control procedures. Handle biological specimens and laboratory materials safely and appropriately. Report errors, incidents, equipment issues, or deviations from established procedures promptly to the appropriate supervisor. Equipment and Supplies Perform routine cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of laboratory equipment as assigned. Assist with routine equipment checks and maintain required equipment records. Ensure laboratory work areas and equipment are clean, organized, and ready for use. Monitor laboratory supplies and notify the appropriate personnel when supplies need to be replenished. Receive, organize, and properly store laboratory supplies and materials. Assist with inventory management and expiry-date monitoring. Data Entry and Documentation Enter patient, specimen, and laboratory information accurately into the laboratory information system. Maintain accurate and complete laboratory records. Document specimen receipt, preparation, processing, and disposition as required. Ensure all documentation is completed in accordance with RepeatDx SOPs and quality-management requirements. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and laboratory information. Cleaning and Sterilization Clean and disinfect laboratory work surfaces, equipment, and designated laboratory areas according to established procedures.
