Duties Safely operate Class A tractor-trailers with step deck (drop deck) configurations on over-the-road (OTR) routes, covering extensive distances across various states. Load and unload freight efficiently using manual handling techniques, ensuring cargo is secured according to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and hazardous materials regulations when applicable. Navigate using GPS systems to follow optimized routes, ensuring timely deliveries while complying with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and safety standards. Transport specialized freight such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or automobile transportation loads as required, maintaining the integrity of the cargo throughout transit. Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor-trailer, including checking for hazardous materials or dangerous goods that require special handling. Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and cargo documentation in compliance with FMCSA regulations. Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers regarding delivery schedules, route adjustments, or any issues encountered during transit. Qualifications Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with clean driving record. Proven experience in truck driving, especially with tractor-trailers such as step decks or flatbeds. Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, tanker loads, hazardous materials (Hazmat), and dangerous goods handling is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols. Proficiency in GPS navigation systems and route planning for efficient OTR driving routes. Ability to manually handle freight safely during loading and unloading processes. Experience with delivery driving across diverse terrains and long-distance routes.
