CDL Driver for Wheelchair Van

Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and energetic CDL Driver specialized in operating wheelchair vans to provide safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation services. In this vital role, you will be responsible for transporting passengers with mobility challenges, including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout each journey. Your role is essential in fostering independence and positive health outcomes for those who rely on specialized transit services. Responsibilities Safely operate wheelchair accessible vans in accordance with all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations. Assist passengers with boarding, disembarking, and securing wheelchairs or mobility devices, ensuring proper use of safety restraints. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while providing excellent customer service to passengers and their families. Use GPS navigation to ensure accurate and timely arrival to appointments Conduct vehicle inspections before and after shifts to ensure compliance with vehicle codes and safety standards. Communicate effectively with dispatchers, passengers, and team members to coordinate pickups, drop-offs, and any special accommodations required. Requirements Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL C, B, or A) with passenger (P) endorsement for passenger transport and wheelchair accessibility. Ability to safely push, pull, and turn adult (up to 200 lbs.) in wheelchair routinely Own and be able to effectively use a smartphone to stay updated on passenger routes, office communications Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling mobility equipment safely. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Experience working with children, seniors, or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable. Knowledge of behavior management techniques and child/elderly care practices is advantageous. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes while maintaining focus on passenger safety and comfort. Excellent customer service skills coupled with a professional attitude; ability to handle stressful situations calmly.
