The Opportunity

Buyer reporting to the Purchasing Manager and working closely with the purchasing team, the Buyer will ensure that all necessary materials (inventory & non-inventory) and services are effectively managed to accommodate the production plan and plant seeds. 

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase and coordinate raw material and outside material/services to support the production plan.
  • Determine purchasing requirements and obtain necessary quotes as required.
  • Check requisition orders, contact suppliers, obtain quotes, examine bids, and make contract awards.
  • Evaluate vendor performance on an on-going basis.
  • Continually identify and propose new supply sources/opportunities.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities with manufacturing, customer service and engineering departments to maximize best value for the company.
  • As required, monitor the cost, schedule and scope aspects of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality and quantity at best value.
  • Work closely with the production team to provide updates on purchasing activities and speak to purchasing measures of performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all purchasing procedures per ISO.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • PMAC (CPP) Designation or working towards would be an asset
  • 2-4 years' progressive experience in purchasing, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once while working under tight deadlines is essential
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office suite of products
