Job Summary

The Ocean Cargo Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day coordination of ocean freight shipments for both Import/Export operations, as well as providing client service/support while ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of the operational process.

Responsibilities

  • Handle LCL/FCL/Consolidation for Ocean Import/Export shipments.
  • Arrange and planning of shipment delivery/pick-up with transportation companies, track and trace shipments to final destinations.
  • Verify accuracy of all Ocean Freight documentation and booking information prior to the execution of shipments. Ensure the proper approval process has been followed.
  • Provide exceptional client service to build and maintain good business relationship with both client and carriers.
  • Handle all incoming communications with clients and other business partners in a timely and professional manner. Resolve any operational issues and customer complaints as they arise and implement measure to prevent their frequency and recurrence.
  • Audit supplier’s invoice and reconcile payments/remittances. Responsible for billing of shipments and storage/demurrage for approved accounts.
  • Make continuous improvements on internal systems and procedures to leverage the service quality and process efficiency.
  • Various other duties as may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • General knowledge of the freight forwarding NVOCC environment
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of moving goods by ocean, specifically exports
  • Ability to provide quality service for our customers by understanding their needs and requirements
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Strong time management; able to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel and Word
  • High school diploma
  • IMDG Dangerous Goods certification (an asset)
