Yard Truck Operator
Madison Wood PreserversHours: Monday – Friday: 7AM to 3:30PM The Yard Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers, materials, and equipment throughout the Madison Wood yard and production areas. This position operates yard trucks and related equipment to position trailers for loading, unloading, production, storage, and shipment while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient flow of yard operations. The Yard Truck Operator must be able to safely maneuver a truck and trailer in a busy industrial environment, including tight turns, backing, blind spots, and varying yard conditions. The position works closely with forklift operators, loaders, production employees, shipping personnel, and supervisors to ensure trailers and materials are positioned where and when they are needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate yard trucks and trailers throughout the Madison Wood facility and yard. Move and position trailers to support production, loading, unloading, storage, and shipping operations. Safely couple and uncouple trailers and perform required pre-trip and equipment inspections. Maneuver and back trailers safely in tight, congested, and limited-visibility areas while maintaining awareness of pedestrians, equipment, and other hazards. Verify trailers and loads are properly secured and safe to move, including safe handling of mulch trailers and other trailers used in yard operations. Learn and maintain familiarity with Madison Wood's yard layout, traffic patterns, trailer locations, and operating areas. Communicate and coordinate effectively with loaders, forklift operators, supervisors, and other departments to ensure timely and efficient trailer movement. Identify and report mechanical problems, equipment damage, unsafe conditions, and other operating concerns. Respond appropriately to equipment breakdowns, hazardous spills, severe weather, and other emergency situations. Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and operating procedures; participate in required training and perform other duties as assigned. Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week). Ability to work overtime, extended hours, weekends, or alternate shifts as business needs require. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Ability to sit and operate a yard truck for extended periods, as well as regularly stand and walk throughout the workday. Ability to frequently enter and exit trucks and trailers using steps, stairs, and handholds. Ability to navigate stairs, inclines, uneven surfaces, and yard conditions. Ability to bend, reach, grip, twist, and perform other movements necessary to inspect and operate trucks and trailers. Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds as needed. Ability to safely operate yard trucks and trailers in an active industrial environment. Ability to work around loud noise, dust, vibration, treated lumber, chemicals, and other typical manufacturing and yard conditions. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience operating trucks, trailers, forklifts, heavy equipment, or similar equipment preferred. Valid driver's license required. Ability to successfully complete Madison Wood's Yard Truck Operator training and evaluation program. Must demonstrate the ability to safely operate a yard truck and trailer before being authorized for independent operation.
