Yard Jockey/Cover Driver

YARD JOCKEY/ COVER DRIVER Shift is 5AM, Monday through Friday with some occasional work on Saturdays. $1000 signing bonus after 90 days. Day rate$250 when covering jockey and $325 when covering a route. Safely handle and maneuver tractor/trailers and 26’ straight trucks to facilitate the loading and unloading operations in the yard Accurately set up, break down and hook trailers safely Monitor yard for unsafe drivers and non-employees; report to management Will be a back up for our Line Haul Driver Requirements: 2 years minimum CDL Class A experience is required. Clean background and MVR required. Must have a good driving record - no consistent speeding, seatbelt, or red light history. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and physical. In down time, as needed: Properly, load and unload freight using a pallet jack, hand truck or by hand Strap, brace and secure freight to prevent damage or shifting Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of the yard and dock equipment Responsible for performing daily maintenance checks of shuttle truck and reporting any malfunctions to Dispatch Must be able to perform the duties of this role in ALL weather conditions. Removing snow from trucks and trailers as necessary Promptly report all maintenance problems for any trailer/tractor/straight truck to Dispatch and/or supervision receiving instructions via radio and performing trailer shuttling to accommodate logistical needs. Responsible for documenting all trailer moves on Yard Driver daily move sheets and submitting the daily move sheet to the shipping office upon the completion of the shift. Perform "safety check" inspection of the trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes. Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area. Perform other duties as assigned.
