Yard Assistant

Position Summary As a Yard Assistant, you’ll keep materials moving safely and efficiently between the yard, warehouse, and shipping areas. You’ll support warehouse distribution by preparing orders, handling inventory, and helping load and unload materials. This hands-on role suits someone who follows safety procedures, works well with a team, and is ready to operate equipment when qualified. Duties Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, warehouse, and storage areas. Sort, organize, and store materials, tools, and supplies. Assist with staging materials and equipment for field crews and projects. Help load, unload, and move materials under supervision. Remove trash, debris, and unused materials from designated areas. Perform general housekeeping duties including sweeping, organizing, and cleaning. Follow all company safety rules and procedures. Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary. Work effectively with supervisors and team members. Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a willingness to learn. Complete assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills Essential: Ability to follow safety procedures, handle materials manually, perform heavy lifting, and use basic math to check orders. Preferred: Warehouse experience, warehouse distribution, order picking, inventory management, and shipping and receiving experience. Experience operating a forklift, pallet jack, order picker, crane, clamp truck, or other heavy equipment is preferred; operate equipment only when trained and authorized. Qualifications Ability to follow instructions and work safely. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform routine physical tasks. Ability to lift and move materials consistent with student work program guidelines. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
