WTE Equipment Operator/CDL Driver Pay: $34.31/hour Location: Portland, Maine Schedule: Full‑time, Non‑Exempt Every other week schedule rotation is as follows: 12 hour shifts rotation day/night weekly 2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on, 3 days off. Position Summary The WTE Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe operation of plant equipment and vehicles used to receive, process, and manage refuse at ecomaine’s Waste‑to‑Energy facility. This role operates bridge cranes, loaders, forklifts, sweepers, trucks, and other rolling stock; performs facility cleanliness and minor equipment maintenance; conducts inspections; and supports multiple operational areas to ensure reliable plant performance. Functions and Responsibilities Operations & Facility Support Equipment operation — Operate all plant equipment, including rented equipment, and perform strenuous labor duties. Facility inspections — Inspect equipment, buildings, and grounds; report findings per company and regulatory requirements. Maintain a high level of job safety and perform effective Job Safety Analyses prior to work. Make out clear and accurate equipment reports and other required documentation. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe condition. Maintenance & Technical Work Preventative maintenance — Perform rolling‑stock PM, lubrication routes, filter/strainer cleaning, conveyor adjustments, and minor insulation/lagging with training. Assist in testing, troubleshooting, and rebuilding major equipment as assigned. Perform basic welding and cutting, oil changes, equipment opening/closing, valve maintenance, and bulb changing. Recognize and correct jams; detect and evaluate mechanical problems and implement corrective measures. Flexible Operational Support Fill in for scale house attendant, crane operator, equipment tipping hall, landfill operator, truck driver/laborer, and warehouse support as needed. Participate in call‑ins and be available for on‑call support. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with ability to obtain tank endorsement within probationary period. Minimum 2 years’ experience operating heavy equipment, including front‑end loaders. Minimum 1 year mechanical maintenance experience. Must be insurable by ecomaine. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to give, take, and follow oral and written instructions. Strong communication skills with staff, vendors, buyers, and the public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to lead and participate in semi‑skilled tasks requiring physical exertion under varying conditions. Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities. Proficiency in detecting, evaluating, and correcting mechanical problems. Ability to maintain accurate records and reports. Knowledgeable in plant equipment operation and requirements. Ability to perform effective Job Safety Analyses. Ability to operate plant equipment including cranes, forklifts, loaders, and other machinery. Ability to perform strenuous labor and wear respiratory PPE. Knowledgeable in computer functions related to maintenance and scale house operations. Skilled in the use of hand tools and instruments.
