Job Overview As a Wheelchair Van CDL Driver, you’ll provide safe, dependable transportation for passengers who need mobility assistance, including students and older adults. You’ll operate a wheelchair-accessible van, follow assigned routes and schedules, and help passengers board, travel, and exit with care. This role calls for confident commercial driving, clear communication, and a steady focus on passenger safety. Responsibilities Drive assigned routes and adapt promptly to traffic changes while following traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state and local commercial driving laws. Secure wheelchairs and assist passengers with boarding and exiting; use safe lifting practices when physical assistance is needed. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation, including emergency stop procedures, and provide first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when trained and appropriate. Communicate respectfully with passengers, families, and staff; support student discipline and behavior management in line with school policies. Your impact: Careful driving and attentive wheelchair assistance help passengers and families travel with greater safety and confidence. Qualifications Required: Commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger endorsement, safe driving practices, English communication skills, and knowledge of applicable traffic and safety rules. Preferred: Experience with van driving, paratransit, bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation; experience working with children, in childcare, or in senior care. Helpful skills include wheelchair assistance, customer service, defensive driving, quick responses to traffic changes, passenger safety, communication, and writing skills. First aid and CPR knowledge, emergency response experience, school policy knowledge, student discipline, behavior management, and multilingual communication are valued.
