This role performs visual inspections of complex welded assemblies, evaluates welding techniques and workmanship, interprets blueprints and welding symbols, and provides hands-on coaching to support quality and productivity standards. The Weld Specialist I collaborates with production and quality teams to troubleshoot welding issues, identify process improvements, and support the development and optimization of welding processes across a variety of materials and welding methods, including TIG, MIG, and GMAW. What your day may look like: Perform visual inspections of welded assemblies, review blueprints and welding symbols, and verify work meets quality and production standards. Observe welding operations on the shop floor, evaluate welding techniques and processes, and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and consistency. Provide hands-on coaching and technical guidance to welders, demonstrating best practices and helping resolve welding-related challenges. Utilize welding, plasma, torch, and testing equipment to support inspections, troubleshooting, process validation, and quality initiatives. Partner with production, engineering, and quality teams to investigate issues, recommend corrective actions, and support the development and continuous improvement of welding processes. To thrive in this role, you have: High school diploma or GED required. Experience performing practical welding and visual inspection of welded assemblies within an AWS or DIN-certified manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, specifications, and technical documentation to verify compliance with quality standards. Working knowledge of welding processes and equipment, including TIG, MIG, GMAW, torch, plasma, testing, and inspection equipment. Experience welding complex carbon steel, stainless steel, and dissimilar steel assemblies using a variety of welding methods and positions. Ability to evaluate weld quality, monitor process effectiveness, and provide documented feedback and hands-on coaching to support continuous improvement. Experience supporting weld process development, troubleshooting welding-related issues, and implementing process improvements. Strong understanding of welding quality standards, inspection techniques, and industry best practices. AWS (American Welding Society) certification preferred. Metallurgy and/or structural design and analysis training is desirable. Additional Information: Upon offer of employment, candidates will be subject to a background check and drug screen.
