Job Description

The Opportunity: 
The Warehouse Supervisor - Floor Operations is responsible for leading daily warehouse floor activities in a fast-paced distribution environment. This role oversees warehouse leads and associates across receiving, put-away, order picking, staging, loading, shipping, and inventory movement to ensure operational goals are met for productivity, accuracy, safety, quality, and customer service.

The Supervisor coordinates workflow, staffing, and priorities based on inbound and outbound requirements, customer commitments, shipping deadlines, and labor availability. This position uses AS400, warehouse systems, spreadsheets, reports, database tools, and forecast information to support daily planning, execution, and decision-making.

This role is also responsible for coaching, training, performance management, attendance monitoring, employee relations support, and problem resolution in accordance with company policies, Employment Standards Act (ESA) requirements, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement where applicable.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who spends significant time on the warehouse floor, communicates clearly, keeps the team organized, and drives accountability, safety, quality, and productivity throughout the shift.

What Your Impact Will Be: ​​​​​​​

Operational Execution

  • Oversee daily warehouse floor operations, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, order picking, staging, loading, shipping, and inventory movement.
  • Plan, assign, and adjust work throughout the shift to meet service levels, shipping schedules, customer requirements, and operational priorities.
  • Monitor workflow, labor utilization, order status, and equipment availability to identify and resolve operational bottlenecks.
  • Ensure orders, shipments, and inventory transactions are completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
  • Investigate and resolve order issues, inventory discrepancies, product damage, equipment concerns, and process gaps.
  • Partner with Transportation, Customer Service, Inventory Control, Operations Management, and other departments to support smooth daily execution.
  • Communicate shift priorities, performance expectations, operational changes, and service risks to employees and management.

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with company Health and Safety procedures, equipment guidelines, and operational policies.
  • Conduct regular floor walks to identify and address hazards, housekeeping concerns, blocked aisles, damaged product, unsafe behaviours, and process non-compliance.
  • Ensure proper use of material handling equipment, PPE, RF scanners, warehouse tools, and other required equipment.
  • Support incident reporting, root cause reviews, corrective action follow-up, and safety communication as required.
  • Maintain standards for product handling, labeling, storage, cleanliness, damage prevention, and warehouse organization.
  • Reinforce compliance with company policies, standard operating procedures, ESA requirements, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement where applicable.

People Leadership

  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and support to warehouse leads and associates.
  • Monitor employee performance, productivity, attendance, accuracy, safety practices, and adherence to procedures.
  • Provide timely feedback, recognition, and corrective coaching to support individual and team performance.
  • Support onboarding, training, and cross-training to build team flexibility and operational coverage.
  • Address employee questions, concerns, and performance issues professionally and escalate matters to management or People & Culture when appropriate.
  • Foster a respectful, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.

Inventory Accuracy and Process Control

  • Support inventory accuracy through proper documentation, transaction control, location management, and product movement verification.
  • Monitor picking, staging, loading, and shipping accuracy to reduce errors, rework, customer issues, and product loss.
  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory investigations, audits, and discrepancy resolution as required.
  • Ensure employees follow established inventory control procedures and escalation processes.

Performance and Continuous Improvement

  • Track, review, and communicate daily performance against key operational goals, including productivity, accuracy, safety, on-time shipping, order completion, and labor efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, layout, staffing, quality, safety, and employee engagement.
  • Recommend and support process improvements that reduce errors, delays, rework, overtime, damage, and safety risks.
  • Support the implementation of new procedures, systems, equipment, technology, and operational changes.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For: 

Required Qualifications

  • Experience supervising hourly employees in a warehouse, distribution, fulfillment, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse floor operations, including receiving, picking, staging, loading, shipping, and inventory movement.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, coach, and hold employees accountable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work, adjust to changing demands, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, warehouse management systems, inventory systems, RF scanners, or similar tools.
  • Ability to work the assigned shift and support overtime, weekends, holidays, or schedule changes based on business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Warehouse Lead, Team Lead, Supervisor, or similar leadership role.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Familiarity with AS400 or similar warehouse, ERP, or inventory management systems.
  • Experience using performance metrics to manage productivity, accuracy, safety, and service levels.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices related to warehouse operations and material handling equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Role requires regular presence on the warehouse floor.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment with changing priorities.
  • May require standing, walking, bending, and moving throughout the shift.
  • May require working around material handling equipment, loading docks, trailers, racking, and warehouse traffic.
  • Overtime, weekend, holiday, or extended shift coverage may be required based on operational needs.
