Director of Warehouse Operations, E-Commerce & Fulfillment Location: Houston, TX | In person Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with additional hours, weekends, or schedule adjustments as operational needs require Position overview A fast-growing e-commerce company is seeking a Director of Warehouse Operations to lead the full warehouse operation in Houston. This role is accountable for receiving, inventory control, production, order fulfillment, packing, shipping, returns, quality, safety, staffing, and overall warehouse performance. The Director will lead through managers, supervisors, and department leads while staying closely connected to daily execution on the warehouse floor. Success requires the ability to set an operational direction, translate it into clear goals and staffing plans, use ERP and warehouse management systems (WMS) to monitor results, and intervene quickly when performance falls short. This is a director-level role with responsibility for the performance of the entire operation. The ideal candidate has led a high-volume e-commerce warehouse, built accountable teams, and improved service, accuracy, productivity, and cost at the same time. Key responsibilitiesOwn warehouse performance Direct all warehouse functions, including receiving, putaway, inventory, production, picking, packing, shipping, returns, and quality control. Establish operating plans and measurable goals for each department. Ensure work moves efficiently between teams and that priorities reflect order demand, production requirements, inventory availability, and shipping deadlines. Review order volume, backlog, output, labor utilization, capacity, and carrier cutoffs throughout the day. Direct corrective action when service or productivity is at risk. Take ownership of on-time, accurate order fulfillment across e-commerce channels, from order release through carrier handoff. Prepare regular performance reports for executive leadership, including results, root causes, corrective actions, and resource needs. Lead managers and build accountability Lead and develop warehouse managers, supervisors, department leads, hourly employees, and temporary labor. Define responsibilities, decision rights, performance standards, and escalation paths across the operation. Establish a consistent management rhythm, including daily operating meetings, shift priorities, performance reviews, and follow-up on open issues. Hold leaders accountable for attendance, training, productivity, accuracy, quality, safety, and employee performance within their teams. Partner with Human Resources on recruiting, onboarding, development, employee relations, performance reviews, corrective action, and terminations. Build staffing schedules and coverage plans based on forecasted volume, production needs, skills, and operational constraints. Determine when overtime or additional labor is needed. Strengthen inventory, systems, and controls Ensure the accurate use of ERP and WMS platforms for inventory transactions, order flow, production, receiving, shipping, and reporting. Set standards for receiving records, product movements, cycle counts, adjustments, and discrepancy investigations. Improve inventory accuracy and visibility so teams can make reliable fulfillment and production decisions. Maintain effective controls for damaged goods, returns, rework, and quality exceptions. Identify reporting gaps or system issues and work with relevant teams to improve data quality and operational visibility. Improve capacity, cost, and processes Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for each warehouse function. Analyze workflow, layout, equipment use, labor deployment, and handoffs to identify bottlenecks and wasted effort.
