Warehouse Manager – Distribution Center Job Description Position Overview The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the safe, accurate, efficient, and customer-focused operation of a large, multi-client third-party logistics warehouse. This position directs inbound receiving, putaway, storage, inventory control, order fulfillment, value-added services, and outbound shipping across multiple shifts. The manager leads supervisors and warehouse associates, ensures compliance with customer requirements and service-level agreements, manages labor and operating costs, and uses warehouse management system data to drive continuous improvement. Reporting Relationship Reports to: General Manager, Director of Operations, or Regional Operations Leader Direct reports: Warehouse supervisors, team leads, inventory control personnel, and other assigned operational staff Schedule: Full-time; availability may be required across multiple shifts, weekends, peak periods, and emergency situations Key Responsibilities Operations Management Direct daily receiving, unloading, inspection, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing, staging, loading, and shipping activities. Develop daily operating plans based on inbound appointments, outbound orders, customer priorities, equipment availability, and staffing needs. Maintain effective space utilization through slotting, location control, product segregation, and warehouse layout improvements. Ensure orders and receipts are processed accurately, completely, and within required customer cutoffs. Coordinate value-added services, special projects, returns, rework, and customer-specific handling requirements. Maintain contingency plans for volume surges, system interruptions, equipment failures, severe weather, and other disruptions. Customer and 3PL Account Management Understand customer contracts, standard operating procedures, service-level agreements, billing activities, and special handling requirements. Lead investigations of inventory discrepancies, damages, mis-shipments, late orders, and customer complaints; implement documented corrective and preventive actions. Participate in customer reviews, audits, business meetings, implementations, and new-account start-ups. Partner with customer service, transportation, finance, sales, and information technology teams to resolve issues and protect service levels. People Leadership Hire, train, coach, schedule, and develop supervisors, leads, equipment operators, and warehouse associates. Set clear standards for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, housekeeping, and customer service. Conduct daily start-up meetings, regular toolbox talks, performance reviews, and documented coaching. Maintain cross-training and succession plans for critical warehouse functions. Promote accountability, respectful communication, teamwork, and employee engagement across all shifts. Address performance and conduct concerns consistently and in accordance with company policy. Inventory Control and Systems Maintain inventory integrity through disciplined receiving, labeling, location control, cycle counting, physical inventories, and reconciliation. Investigate variances using root-cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are completed and sustained. Use the warehouse management system, customer portals, radio-frequency scanning, electronic data interchange, and reporting tools accurately. Ensure master data, units of measure, lot numbers, serial numbers, expiration dates, and status controls are maintained as required. Support system testing, enhancements, implementations, and user training while maintaining transaction discipline. Safety, Quality, and Compliance Maintain a safe workplace and enforce company safety rules, powered industrial truck requirements, personal protective equipment standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
