Job Type: Full-Time Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM | Minimum 40 hours per week About S&S Industrial Surplus S&S Industrial Surplus specializes in industrial surplus equipment, parts, machinery, and supplies for resale. We are seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined individual to join our team as a Warehouse Associate. This is an active, hands-on position involving warehouse operations, incoming material preparation, equipment testing, freight preparation, and facility maintenance. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with computers and tools, understands basic mechanical and electrical concepts, and has the ability to think through problems and learn how equipment works. We are looking for someone who can balance physical work with common sense, technical ability, and attention to detail . Key Responsibilities Warehouse Operations & Inventory Preparation Receive, sort, identify, tag, and organize incoming surplus materials. Place incoming materials on carts and prepare items for the inventory department to process. Move, stage, shelve, and retrieve industrial equipment, machinery, and parts. Assist with photographing and preparing materials for cataloging. Photograph and enter large equipment and other designated items directly into the company's inventory system. Follow established procedures for handling and tracking materials throughout the warehouse. Participate in equipment and material teardown. Equipment Testing & Mechanical Work Assist with testing, inspecting, and evaluating used motors, machinery, and other industrial surplus items. Perform basic electrical and mechanical testing within established safety procedures and training. Use common hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment. Identify equipment issues and communicate findings to management. Develop familiarity with different types of industrial equipment and their operation. Freight & Shipping Support Work with the shipping department to locate, retrieve, and prepare items for outgoing shipments. Use the company's internal ticketing system to communicate and track freight requests. Measure and weigh equipment and materials to determine shipping and packaging requirements. Build pallets, crate, wrap, and secure items for freight transportation. Assist with loading, unloading, and staging shipments. Building & Grounds Maintenance Perform basic building maintenance and minor repairs. Assist with mowing, snow removal, and general groundskeeping. Maintain clean, organized, and safe warehouse and work areas. Complete daily work-area cleanup and participate in weekly company housekeeping activities. Off-Site Projects & General Support Participate in occasional out-of-town equipment teardowns, auctions, and material recovery projects. Assist with dismantling, sorting, and handling industrial equipment and materials. Communicate and work effectively with warehouse, inventory, shipping, and other departments. Be available for occasional weekend work and additional hours when business needs require it. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: Valid driver's license and valid Michigan Chauffeur's License. This is a firm requirement. Basic computer skills and ability to learn inventory databases and internal ticketing systems. Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude. Familiarity with common hand tools and power tools. Ability to take measurements and understand basic dimensions. Good communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently, follow direction, and take responsibility for assigned tasks. Dependable, punctual, adaptable, and willing to work in a demanding warehouse environment.
