THOMPSON PROFESSIONAL RESOURCESJob Overview As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice President Supply Chain is responsible for developing and executing a global supply chain strategy to ensure a reliable supply of parts, competitive cost, quality, inventory performance, and to support exceptional customer service. The position provides leadership for negotiating strategic supplier partnerships and agreements, sourcing and supplier management, procurement, planning, inventory, logistics, and related supply chain activities in a distribution/logistics environment. The Vice President Supply Chain establishes scalable processes, systems, and performance measures; partners cross-functionally to align supply capabilities with business growth and customer requirements; develops a high-performing team; strengthens supplier relationships; manages supply and operational risk; and drives continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost and improve service levels. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Regular Functions Include: Supply Chain Strategy & Execution Develops and executes an integrated supply chain strategy aligned with company growth, customer service, quality, margin, and working-capital objectives. Establishes enterprise supply chain priorities, operating rhythms, policies, and performance standards across sourcing, purchasing, planning, inventory, and logistics. Translates business forecasts and strategic plans into supply, capacity, inventory, and supplier strategies that support profitable growth. Sourcing, Procurement & Supplier Management Leads complex commercial and operational discussions directly with global suppliers, including cost structure, capacity, tooling, manufacturing processes, quality, engineering changes, lead times and investment requirements. Develops supplier segmentation and performance-management processes, including scorecards, business reviews, corrective actions, and development plans. Drives supplier diversification, dual-sourcing, localization, and contingency strategies where appropriate to reduce supply continuity risk. Possesses sufficient technical and manufacturing fluency to engage credibly with supplier executives, engineers, quality leaders and plant operations teams and to identify the underlying drivers of supplier performance. Develops long-term, collaborative relationships with key suppliers while maintaining strong commercial discipline and accountability. Planning, Inventory & Customer Service Provides leadership for demand, supply, and inventory planning processes and ensures alignment between customer requirements, purchasing commitments, and operational capacity. Establishes inventory strategies and controls, balancing product availability, lead time, service level, obsolescence risk, and working capital. Partners with Sales, Operations, Finance, and Customer Service to resolve supply constraints and prioritize customer requirements. Logistics & Distribution Ensures supply chain practices support applicable import/export, customs, trade compliance, and documentation requirements. Continuous Improvement, Systems & Analytics Establishes supply chain KPIs and executive reporting for supplier performance, purchase price variance, inventory turns, service levels, forecast accuracy, lead time, freight, and other key measures. Leads cross-functional initiatives to reduce total landed cost, improve cash conversion, eliminate waste, shorten lead times, and increase supply chain reliability. Communication – Internal and External Serves as the senior supply chain liaison with leadership, suppliers, and other key stakeholders. Communicates priorities, performance, risks, and corrective actions clearly and consistently across the organization.
