Vice President Purchasing

VP of Purchasing *Candidates need to be out of foodservice distribution* Northwest Illinois A well-established and growing foodservice distribution company is looking for an experienced VP of Purchasing to lead its purchasing and procurement organization. This is a key leadership position responsible for developing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, improving profitability, and leading a team that supports the company’s overall growth and customer service objectives. What You’ll Be Responsible For Lead and develop the purchasing/procurement team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management Develop and execute purchasing strategies that improve margins, service levels, and overall profitability Negotiate pricing, programs, rebates, and other agreements with suppliers and manufacturers Manage inventory levels to balance product availability, working capital, and profitability Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, vendor performance, and overall department efficiency Partner closely with Sales, Operations, Finance, Marketing, and senior leadership Support major customer opportunities through pricing analysis, product selection, and strategic purchasing initiatives Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors Help identify new products, suppliers, and opportunities to expand the company's product offerings Monitor purchasing performance, expenses, inventory, and other key financial metrics Lead initiatives designed to increase supplier participation and improve company profitability Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and applicable regulations What We’re Looking For Bachelor's degree preferred 10+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience Strong leadership and team management experience Experience within foodservice distribution, food distribution, grocery distribution, or a similar environment Strong knowledge of vendor negotiations, purchasing strategy, inventory management, and supplier programs Demonstrated ability to impact margins and overall financial performance Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills Ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams Why Consider This Opportunity?
