Utility Technician - Sample Lab
Bell Flavors & FragrancesUtility Technician – Sample Lab Bell Flavors & Fragrances, Inc. is seeking a dependable and adaptable Utility Technician to support our Shared Technical Services Sample Lab in Northbrook. Reporting to the STS Sample Lab Manager, this hands-on role supports shipping and receiving, inventory control, raw material handling, sample compounding, and related administrative activities. This role provides flexible support across the department based on business needs, customer priorities, production schedules, and workload demands. Daily responsibilities may vary and the ideal candidate is adaptable, has strong attention to detail and is comfortable shifting priorities in a fast-paced laboratory and warehouse environment Your Responsibilities Pick, pack, label, document, and ship domestic and international sample packages Maintain accurate raw-material and finished-goods inventory through replenishment, cycle counts, and system transactions Receive, move, stage, store, and replenish materials needed for sample lab operations Prepare samples by accurately weighing ingredients and operating laboratory equipment in accordance with batch sheets and established procedures Assist in fulfilling flavor sample requests and schedule compounding orders using production, inventory, and project management systems Collaborate with R&D, Quality Control, Production, and other teams to support efficient workflow and timely sample delivery Maintain accurate documentation and a safe, clean, organized, and compliant work environment Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental needs Your Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent At least two years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, shipping and receiving, or logistics support Basic knowledge of laboratory weighing, sample preparation, and material-handling practices Ability to accurately follow batch sheets, work instructions, and standard operating procedures Proficiency with Microsoft Office and inventory or sample-tracking systems Strong organization, time management, problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment Commitment to safety, quality, Good Manufacturing Practices, and company procedures Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Food Science, Biology, or related scientific discipline Two to three years of experience in the flavor, fragrance, food, chemical, or related manufacturing industry Experience supporting sample compounding, inventory management, and shipping within a laboratory environment Experience with D365, PLM platforms, Batch Metrics, or similar workflow-management systems Physical Requirements This position requires regular standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling materials and equipment, and working in laboratory, warehouse, and shipping environments while wearing required personal protective equipment. The role frequently involves lifting or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, with assistance when appropriate Why Join Bell?
