Deliver for the Nation's Most Trusted Agency
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is a cornerstone of the American infrastructure, processing and delivering nearly half of the world's mail. We are actively seeking dedicated, community-oriented individuals to join our ranks as a USPS City Carrier Assistant (CCA). This is the premier entry-point into a lifelong career with the federal Postal Service. As a CCA, you are the highly visible face of the USPS in urban and suburban neighborhoods. You will deliver letters, packages, and priority mail on a dynamic schedule, braving all weather conditions to ensure the mail never stops. This role offers an incredible pathway to career status, robust union representation, and the pride of serving your local community.
Operational Responsibilities
• Neighborhood Route Execution: Navigate a densely packed urban or suburban route. You will execute a mix of "park and loop" (walking block to block with a heavy leather satchel) and mounted delivery (delivering directly from the vehicle to curbside mailboxes).
• Precision Mail Casing: Start your morning inside the post office, utilizing incredible mental agility to "case" (sort) thousands of pieces of raw mail into the exact geographical sequence of your street route.
• Postal Vehicle Operation: Safely pilot the iconic right-hand-drive Long Life Vehicle (LLV) or the newer Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV), mastering right-side driving and strict postal safety protocols.
• Accountable Mail Management: Utilize specialized scanning devices to track certified mail, registered parcels, and international packages, capturing required customer signatures at the door.
Why Build a Career with USPS?
• Pathway to Career Status: CCAs are highly prioritized for conversion to career status, which immediately unlocks the prestigious Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) pension and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).
• Competitive Base Pay & Overtime: Enjoy highly competitive hourly wages with massive opportunities for penalty overtime during the peak holiday mailing seasons.
• Union Protections: This position is proudly represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), providing structured wage increases, grievance processes, and job security.
