ConfidentialUsed Vehicle Director – Multi-Location Sarah Jones Ford of St. Ignace & Classy Chassy of North Muskegon Used Cars Primary Location: North Muskegon, MI Travel: Regular travel between North Muskegon and St. Ignace, MI Job Type: Full-Time Compensation: Base salary + performance-based compensation Expected Total Compensation: $75,000–$150,000+ for strong performance Company Vehicle/Fuel Provided for Business Travel About the Opportunity Sarah Jones Ford of St. Ignace and Classy Chassy of North Muskegon are seeking an experienced, driven Used Vehicle Director to oversee used vehicle operations across both dealerships. This is not a desk manager position. We are looking for someone who understands the entire used vehicle business—from acquiring the right inventory and accurately appraising trades to controlling recon, pricing vehicles correctly, managing aging inventory and ultimately producing profitable retail sales. The Used Vehicle Director will have significant responsibility and authority over the used vehicle operation at both locations and will work directly with ownership. The position will require regular scheduled travel between our Ford dealership in St. Ignace and our used vehicle operation in North Muskegon. Responsibilities The Used Vehicle Director will oversee the complete used vehicle lifecycle across both locations, including: Develop and manage used vehicle inventory strategies for both dealerships Source and acquire retail inventory through trades, auctions, street purchases and other channels Appraise trades and establish appropriate ACVs Monitor auction purchases, transportation, recon and total cost-to-market Establish and manage appropriate stocking levels and inventory mix for each location Review inventory pricing and market position regularly Create and enforce 30/45/60/90-day aging strategies Make timely retail, wholesale, price-adjustment and inventory-transfer decisions Identify opportunities to transfer vehicles between locations based on market demand Manage used vehicle reconditioning timelines and expenses Work closely with service and detailing teams to improve time-to-line Ensure vehicles are properly merchandised, photographed, described and advertised Monitor leads, VDP activity, pricing and competitive market data Coach and hold sales teams accountable for used vehicle performance Assist local management with deal structure and sales strategy when needed Monitor retail and wholesale gross profit Minimize unnecessary wholesale losses and aged inventory Develop alternatives to excessive auction dependence Establish processes for acquiring vehicles directly from consumers Provide ownership with regular reporting on inventory, sales, aging, gross, recon and profitability What We’re Looking For We are looking for an experienced automotive professional who can run a used vehicle business—not simply manage a sales desk. The ideal candidate will have: Proven automotive used vehicle management experience Strong vehicle appraisal skills Experience buying and selling vehicles at auction Strong understanding of market-based inventory pricing Experience managing aged inventory Demonstrated ability to manage recon expenses and timelines Strong understanding of used vehicle gross and inventory turn Ability to identify profitable inventory based on individual market conditions Experience coaching and developing sales professionals Strong organizational and analytical skills Ability to make decisions independently and take ownership of results Comfort working directly with dealership ownership Willingness to travel regularly between North Muskegon and St. Ignace Ford dealership experience is helpful but not required. Experience with inventory management and market-pricing platforms is strongly preferred.
