Position Summary: 

The Operations Manager is vital in meeting the expectations and needs of customers related to the production process. This expectation can only be met by efficiently and sustainably leading, hiring, organizing, training, and coaching high-performance work teams who are charged with operating and maintaining high-speed beverage production and packing equipment. The Operations Manager ensures that all safety, quality, and food safety standards are met while relentlessly removing waste from the operation by applying appropriate lean tools and practices. The Operations Manager directly impacts the bottom line of the operation by ensuring that the equipment is maintained and operated using standardized work systems and practices that improve productivity, by interacting with all areas of the Plant and the Company, while operating within or below budget. 

The Operations Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager. 

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions: 

The Operations Manager for the TX Plant provides leadership for the teams who are charged with transforming goods into sellable products. He/She is responsible for planning and executing the operation's daily activities for the benefit of employees, management, and customers. The Operation Manager is part of the Leadership Team for the Site and as such will be participating in decisions related to the staffing and day-to-day operations. 

Key responsibilities / essential functions are listed below but are not limited to: 

  • Set direction and drive results for the Make/Pack/Ship operations and all resources supporting the Core Operations, including inventory accuracy in transactions related to the Production of goods. 
  • Clarify priorities and use appropriate Lean processes and tools to drive out Waste(s) and improve the Cost Structure for the Site. 
  • Ensure the Right people are in the Right roles with the Right skills doing the Right work with the Right sense of urgency to Improve Results. • Ensure adequate scheduling of staff. 
  • Ensure Technicians are delivering Maintenance expectations for the Plant, for instance delivering Proactive Maintenance.
  • Ensure appropriate Communications throughout the organization (Plant and Corporate) that drive Action and support Organization Priorities.
  • Engage heavily in Daily Management Activities with Teams and Individuals through Hands-On Leadership, Coaching, and Execution of Work. Physical labor will be required occasionally. 
  • Use/Implement adequate and regular Review Processes to Track and reinforce progress vs plans to Close Gaps.
  • Be a Champion and a role model for People Development across the site. 
  • Hold self, individual employees, and collective teams accountable to deliver continuously improving results. 
  • Personally own and role model Safety and Quality systems and expectations. Active Leadership in these areas is a must. 
  • Work effectively and appropriately across Plant and Functional boundaries to ensure the best solutions and practices for the Company as a whole. 

Quality / Safety: 

  • Lead and manage to ensure Safe, Quality production of products that add Value to the Customer. 
  • Personally lead and own appropriate Safety and Quality systems to role model behaviors.
  • Coach, teach, and develop the Team Safety and Quality leaders.
  • Ensure that all plant, legal, and/or regulatory practices and procedures for Safety, Quality, and Production are properly followed and implemented.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment for yourself and the plant.
  • Report immediately to the Site Quality Leader all conditions that may pose a risk to product food safety and/or quality. Food Safety is everyone's Responsibility
  • Responsible for maintenance safety and regulatory compliance, including record keeping. 

Site leadership and direction setting: 

  •  Drive Improvements in Plant Manufacturing Operations.
  • Continually drive OEE improvement to meet and sustain targets for each Value Stream. 
  • Lead/Manage improvements across all aspects of Making, Packaging, and Shipping. 
  • Lead, drive, and use Lean resources and tools to drive out Waste(s). 
  • Ensure Standard Work Processes are followed and continually improved. 
  • Ensure Kaizens are done to build skills and improve results. 
  • Ensure systems and processes are used to track and develop operational and technical skill improvement and utilization. 
  • Serve as a key contributor to site direction setting as co-facilitator of the site leadership team. 
  • Support and help drive overall results for the plant: Productivity, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale. 
  • Coordinate, prepare, and deliver site performance reports as required. 
  • Make recommendations for positive change, involving process redesign and supply chain effectiveness. 
  • Be prepared to serve as the backup to the plant manager in his absence. 
  • Support day-to-day results by flowing to the work in addition to the medium and long-term project work. 
  • Lead/Own individual and team Performance Management and accountability systems for their direct reports. 
  • Other duties may be assigned. 

Cost Responsibility: 

  • Lead/Manage in a way that continually focuses on Cost-effectiveness.
  • Drive out Waste(s) daily and coach/teach others to do the same.
  • Own Operations budgeting and Cost Center accountability for the Make/Pack/Ship operations.
  • Participate in the plant budgeting process and manage costs to deliver the budget. 

Qualifications: 

Essential Skills and Abilities: 

Proven experience leading and driving results improvement through:

  • Using Lean systems tools.
  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, SQF, HACCP, and GMP manufacturing requirements.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA Safety regulations and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and other applicable software.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating multiple complex projects. 
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Being a Lead Change Agent.
  • Coaching, leading, and developing leaders in the organization to ensure results improvement, focus, and contribution.
  • Continually assessing and evaluating skills and contributions of employees to understand gaps vs. required results.

Educational Background: 

The person should have 6+ years of experience in related manufacturing roles (Operations, Warehouse, Technical) and a successful track record of achievement, commensurate work, and leadership experience. The Candidate will have progressive and expanding roles and responsibilities, performed in a manufacturing environment, and a demonstrated knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma across the supply chain. Food and Beverage experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field are a plus, but not required. 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 yrs. of leadership experience in Food and Beverage, experience in project management, and working knowledge of FDA, SQF, HACCP, OSHA, and GMP regulations, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient in managing maintenance activities and execution focusing on consistent high performance.
  • Experience in high-speed beverage production and automated packing equipment.
  • This position may require periodic travel to other sites to assist on kaizens or projects. It may require on certain occasions physical work, such as moving cases, carrying change over parts, and maintenance tasks.
  • Experience with Rockwell and Wonderware programming software a plus, but not required
