Guys Freightways Ltd. is seeking an experienced Dispatcher with strong Canada/U.S. cross-border transportation experience to coordinate and optimize our growing fleet operations. This is a fast-paced role responsible for dispatching and supporting a diverse range of freight, including: Dry Van Refrigerated (Reefer) Flat Deck Step Deck Over-Dimensional (OD) Loads General Freight Cross-Border Shipments Specialized Equipment Moves As the primary link between drivers, customers, brokers, and internal departments, you will play a critical role in moving freight safely, efficiently, compliantly, and profitably while delivering exceptional customer service. What You'll Do Dispatch & Freight Coordination Plan, assign, and monitor freight movements throughout Canada and the United States. Dispatch drivers and equipment while ensuring compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations. Match loads with appropriate equipment, permits, driver qualifications, and route requirements. Coordinate dry van, reefer, flat deck, step deck, oversize/over-dimensional, and specialized freight movements. Arrange permits, routing, escorts, and regulatory requirements for oversized loads. Maximize equipment utilization while minimizing empty miles and downtime. Proactively plan future load opportunities and driver repositioning. Driver Communication & Support Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during your shift. Provide dispatch instructions, route information, customer requirements, and delivery expectations. Respond to operational issues, delays, weather impacts, border crossings, breakdowns, and customer concerns in real time. Assist drivers in maintaining compliance with company policies, safety requirements, and transportation regulations. Support a positive driver’s experience through effective communication and problem solving. Cross-Border Operations Coordinate Canada/U.S. freight movements and border crossings. Ensure all customs, permits, and shipping documentation is accurate and complete. Work closely with customers, customs brokers, and carriers to keep cross-border operations running smoothly. Maintain knowledge of U.S. permit requirements, state-specific regulations, and route restrictions. Monitor border delays and adjust scheduling and customer updates accordingly. Customer & Broker Relations Communicate professionally with customers, brokers, and third-party carriers. Provide load status updates, ETA notifications, and service recovery plans when required. Secure freight through load boards and broker networks when necessary. Develop strong working relationships with customers and freight partners. Fleet Monitoring & Operational Excellence Monitor freight movements using GPS, ELD, and Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Track load progress, delays, detention, layovers, and service issues. Update dispatch systems with accurate information and load status changes. Identify and resolve operational challenges before they become service failures. Documentation & Compliance Ensure accurate completion and collection of: Bills of Lading (BOLs) Proofs of Delivery (PODs) Customs documents Permit documentation Driver logs and trip records Verify paperwork is submitted promptly to support billing and customer invoicing. Maintain accurate records to meet regulatory and company compliance requirements. Safety & HSE Leadership Promote a strong safety-first culture in every dispatch decision.
