Truck/Trailer Mechanic

Position Summary The Truck/Trailer Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and inspecting company trucks, trailers, and related equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in heavy-duty truck and trailer repairs, preventive maintenance programs, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, and can independently identify and resolve complex mechanical issues. Key ResponsibilitiesTruck & Trailer Repairs Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and diesel engine systems. Perform comprehensive inspections and repairs on tractors, dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, and other trailer equipment. Repair and replace components including engines, transmissions, clutch systems, axles, suspensions, steering systems, brakes, and driveline components. Troubleshoot and repair ABS, EBS, air systems, suspension systems, and electrical faults. Perform trailer structural repairs, including flooring, doors, roofs, side panels, landing gear, and wheel-end assemblies. Conduct welding and fabrication work as required for trucks and trailers. Repair and maintain HVAC systems on trucks and reefer units when required. Preventive Maintenance Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services according to OEM and company standards. Complete oil changes, lubrication services, filter replacements, tire inspections, and fluid checks. Monitor fleet maintenance schedules and ensure equipment remains roadworthy. Identify potential mechanical failures and proactively address maintenance concerns. Diagnostics & Troubleshooting Utilize computerized diagnostic software and scanning tools to identify mechanical and electrical issues. Interpret fault codes and perform advanced troubleshooting on diesel engines and electronic control systems. Maintain detailed repair records and communicate repair recommendations to management. Safety & Compliance Perform annual safety inspections and preventative maintenance inspections. Ensure all repairs comply with MTO, DOT, CVOR, and applicable federal/provincial regulations. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop environment. Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and company policies. Fleet Support Provide roadside assistance and emergency repair services when required. Assist drivers with vehicle defect reporting and maintenance concerns. Coordinate with maintenance supervisors regarding repair priorities and parts requirements. Support breakdown management and fleet uptime initiatives. QualificationsRequired 3+ years of experience as a Truck and Trailer Mechanic in a transportation or fleet maintenance environment. Strong hands-on experience repairing heavy-duty trucks and commercial trailers. Thorough knowledge of diesel engines, brake systems, suspensions, electrical systems, and trailer components. Ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues independently. Experience using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools. Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs. Ability to read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair documentation. Valid G Driver's License. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work. Preferred 310T Truck and Coach Technician License (or registered apprentice). Experience with Freightliner, Volvo, International, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, and Western Star trucks. Welding and fabrication experience. Experience working with dry van, reefer, and flatbed trailers. Forklift certification and safety training certifications are considered assets. Skills & Competencies Advanced mechanical aptitude.
