Position Description Advertised Job Summary Drives large, heavy, and specialized on road vehicles having complex technical operating requirements and maintains vehicle and waste equipment relating to environmental service programs serving designated facilities on the Columbia campus of the University of South Carolina. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires 2 or more years of job related experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials CDL required Preferred Qualifications High school diploma and five years driving with a CDL. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Good driving record, attention to detail, attendance and reliability. Safety minded. Initiative. Team work. Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles. Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations applicable to equipment operation and waste hauling. Considerable knowledge of the hazards of equipment operation and of appropriate safety precautions. Ability to keep written records. Job Duties Job Duty Maintains campus dumpsters and dumpster areas by performing routine inspections and repairs; painting dumpsters when necessary; replacing worn or damaged lids; applying grease to fittings; baling cardboard; picking up pallets, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries and other recyclables, and disposing of them at appropriate locations; delivering and removing recycle bins; and keeping storage areas, and waste and recycle centers clean and orderly.
